What an exciting time! We are Four weeks away from launching a new Steps
Ahead Program with the three High Schools that make up the Manual Education
Complex.
Our youth recruiters are busy enrolling 45 youth for the upcoming launch. We
currently have only 35 mentors. *We are short 10 mentors for this
program*. This
is where I need your help.
Please take a minute and think of your personal community, who could you
invite to our upcoming Creating Promise orientation helping us reach our
goal of 45 mentors.

The following is a letter written by a Manual High School Steps Ahead youth
about why she wants a mentor. She wrote this letter at the start of the
program before being paired with her current mentor.
*Hello, I'm 15 years old. I go to Manual High School, Millennium Quest
Complex. I am writing this letter to inform you of what is possible with a
mentor and what I can achieve through the Steps Ahead Program. So here we
go.*
* *
*To me there are a lot of things that are possible with a mentor, but I'm
just going to tell you about the main three.*
* *
*Number One:** It is possible for me to have some one to give me positive
and negative feedback so I can improve on everything I do. Therefore I will
become a better person.*
*Number Two:** It is possible for me to create a life long friendship. Me
and my mentor can have a bond together where I could feel safe to tell my
mentor anything, and the same thing with my mentor. I know if me and my
mentor become close anything is possible.*
*Number Three:** it is possible for me to graduate and go to college. I know
this is possible because me and my mentor can do everything in our will
power to keep my grades up and apply to a bunch of colleges, and things like
that.*
**
Thank you for your help in keeping our promise to our young people. We
appreciate your support. Please contact me with any questions.
Namaste,
