Thanks to those who came out to skate yesterday!

We had Denver Inline Skate Clubber: Clay, Randy and Liz.  Elizabeth from MiD joined us.  The weather was great.  No beer on blades as I had a meter to attend to!  Why didn’t someone tell me that REI was having a big sale and that volunteers would park in the Confluence park lot?!!

Due to pending commitments next week, I am unable to commit to a skate next weekend.  Anyone else want to volunteer to lead?

Heather

Hey everyone,

I wanted to invite you all to a party of sorts.  I need to make good on a bet.  Some of you have heard the situation (others haven't).  For those of you unfamiliar:

I made a bet just over a year ago with a friend.  I was betting that he would be unable to start and finish building an airplane (yes, a real plane) within a year.  The plane had to take off, land, and do everything else a small plane should do.  Well, I wouldn't be having this "party" if I won the bet; 364 days and 23 hours later, the plane flew -- safely, so... here is the deal.  I need to sweep my friends hanger......in a French Maid's Outfit.

Done laughing now...?

So, I figured, if I am going to make a fool of myself, I might as well do it right.

I am throwing a "Micah is a fool" party at the hanger Friday, October 6th @ 6:30pm.

Bring food, drink (especially for me), chairs if ya want to sit --- it's only a hanger, camera's if you feel it necessary to rub it in even more, or whatever else you want to contribute to making me a fool (I know it really isn't that hard to do).

Hanger is located at the Longmont, Vance Brand Airport

http://maps.yahoo.com/;_ylc=X3oDMTExNmIycG51BF9TAzI3MTYxNDkEc2VjA2ZwLWJ1dHRvbgRzbGsDbGluaw--#mvt=m&maxp=search&q1=Airpor+Rd.+Longmont+CO&trf=0&lon=-105.154524&lat=40.164182&mag=5

Entrance off of St. Vrain (by the the dog park)
Make first left
Take the second left
Take right towards the brown and beige building
Executive Hangar 10 -- north side of the hanger building (basically it is the last one in the corner). If you need more specifics, let me know.

Hope everyone can be there to join in the festivities.

We will turn around at the mall and head back. Or we can blade into LoDo for beers on blades. There are a few places that will let us in, or atleast they used to, with out skates on.

You will need pads, etc. Blade at your own risk. I will be going at a moderate pace. It is slightly uphill to the mall but downhill on the way back! Speed demons this is not for you. However, you must know how to skate.

I am hosting this event as part of Meetin.org and thought that I would post here.

I noticed that there are some beginner skaters that wanted to get out without being intimidated.  This would be a good skate for you.

Hi Heather,

Thanks for the email. Oh yea, I’ve been rollerblading since I was 13 (I’m 24). But, since we didn’t have trails in my hometown, I would go several miles on the side walks and roads, which included several areas of gravel, uneven areas, and large potholes. So I became really good at braking, jumping, or learning to run on my blades in the grass to avoid a total catastrophe. That said, I guess I should have had pads and wrist guards all along.  I know the email said this outing is for beginners to try, but I’m used to blading with friends who’ve had little or no experience, and I never get bored. I’m not sure that I will make it though because I have my first Kaplan class on Saturday, but we’ll see if they’ll let me reschedule the practice exam. I’ll do my best to find some pads and guards before I venture out. Thanks again.

Shireen

Sherry,

Have you skated before? If you haven't, I would recommend that you take
lessons first. I am surprised that you do not have pads. Several of us
have had injuries and know the value of pads. You can get them at your
local sports store.

I won't enforce a no pads, no skate rule but I won't be smiling when I see
you without at least basic pads.

I would recommend getting some bike gloves/and or wrist guards no matter
what. At least if you fall, your palms won't get trashed and you won't break
your wrist!

Looking out to the west this morning, who can believe that there may be a change in the weather, possibly with snow in the mountains, and rain in Denver.  Maybe we'll get lucky.

Wash park as close to 6 as possible (it gets dark by 7:15)

Thank you all so much for the tips on where to skate.  I really appreciate it as I’ve been really anxious to get back out there.

I’m looking forward to meeting all of you one of these days soon.

Take care,

Rebekah

I live in Castle Rock too and usually I go along
Parker road. Take I-86 from CR to Franktown, left on
Parker Road. The trail follow the road pretty much all
the way. I usally park in the parking of a small park,
you can see it from the road there are some bathroom
an there is a church across the street; it is about 2
or3 blocks south of Main street downtown Parker. The
trail is 12 miles round trip if you go North and 8
miles round trip going south.

Cherry Creek State Park has a good trail that is just off the 1-25 Bellview exit
so i would
guess is about a 15-20 min drive for you. Not quite the SF Bay, but scenic and
somewhat
hilly. You can park for free at the soccer fields( NE corner of Union and Dayton
) and skate
in the park from there. The trail is about 4-5 miles one way. Some of us have
spontaneous
skates there over the weekend.

Thanks for the info!  Maybe I’ll meet you at one of the skates.  If you ever need a skating buddy, let me know.

Take care,

Rebekah,

There are some trails in Castle Rock. You might want to check S&S sports on fifth and wilcox for the skate shop. I live in Castle Rock as well but have yet to make it to a group skate

HI!  I just moved to Castle Rock from the SF Bay area and I’m wondering if anyone can tell me where the good in-line skating trails are.  I joined the group last week but sadly wasn’t able to make last nights skate.  One last request, does anyone know a good skate shop?  I need to invest in a new pair of blades.

I’m looking forward to meeting and skating with you all.

PS  I apologize for sending a message this way.  I was told that I’m not allowed to post on the group site.  I’m not sure why.

Rebekah,

There are some trails in Castle Rock. You might want to check S&S sports on fifth and wilcox for the skate shop. I live in Castle Rock as well but have yet to make it to a group skate
