It's springtime and that means time to get in shape and Mt. Biking. This year, starting May 1,the weekly beginner/intermediate mt. bike rides will commence.Larry and I will once again organize, lead and sweep the rides. The rides, this season will be on MONDAYS.
The first ride will be Monday,May 1,at Waterton Canyon.meet at 5:45 and ride at 6:00.If you have to be late it's an out and back so you'll run into the group regardless.Of course after the ride will be the traditional food and booze.
As we get closer I'll post this again. For those beginners,it's imperative to start on May 1,because the rides get progressively more difficult.Like any course missing the first classes can set you way back.Larry and I will be very happy to give pointers on technique and fitness.
Start getting in shape now and we'll have great season!
I searched around a little more based on that map and found a great
page with tons of links to local trail maps on the Bicycle Colorado
site. I put the link to that page on our site at: http://www.denverinlineskateclub.org/resources/trails.cfm
Debbie - Confluence park is downtown where the Platte River
Trail and the Cherry Creek Trail meet. both are nice, paved, paths. the
city of Denver has a trail map on it's web site. http://www.denvergov.org/denvermaps/report.asp?rpt=crec&cat=crec then

Hi!
Where are the other good paved paths (besides Wash Park)
either close to downtown, or not too far of a detour from my drive back
south? I'm going to be in Denver on Sunday and thought I'd take
advantage of any good paths there, or on my way home to Monument.

Hi, This is Penny Wright from the Phoenix Predator Speed skate
club and Sk8right Inlin skate school.
I'm not sure if we've talked, but I am in need of a few skaters to
promote Qwest communications, see attached photo of the AZ team.
Please call me right away for you know of some that would be
interested. There is specific criteria that must be followed, so they
can apply by contacting me or sending a photo of themselves. They also
need to be a good skater, not necessarily a speed skater, but look like
one and skate well.
I have several dates to fill, so if one can do one event but not
the other, that's ok too. The pay is very good!
I myself prefer 4 wheels for maneuverability and tight turns. I also do
tricks on skates too, so I need the short wheel base for toe and heel
action, And I can go quite fast on 4 wheels.
For rougher terrain, you are more interested in a softer wheel
durometer rating. Wheel diameter doesn't do much for you in dealing
with rough terrain. It gives you better speed. I use like an 83
durometer 80mm wheel. The lower the rating the softer the wheel. The
softer the wheel, the more traction you have but it does diminish your
speed some, as compared to a harder wheel. Thus a larger diameter wheel
can compensate some for diminished speed from better traction.
I have been street skating for many many years, and softer wheels are
what you want for varying turf. The down side to them is that they wear
out sooner.
That's my input!
Ciao baby!

Plus for good loop skating around lakes in nice parks with smooth cement paths:

WashPark is great too - of course.

Not that you need any more choices, but If you want something South and close to
1-25
Cherry Creek State Park has a nice smooth little used scenic trail with a few
inclines to help
get the heart pumping and declines to get some adrenaline going. You can park
for free at
CC High School ( Dayton and Union - about 1 mile NE of I-25 and Bellview ) and
skate
across the street to the Park. I think the trail is about 5 miles each way.

Hi all! I am new!
It looks like I may be able to make it to the skate this eve. I am up
for some street action myself. My name is Clay!
I hope to see you there at the park this eve. :)
Clay :)
I'm one of the first timers for tonight. Too late on the choice of
colors (grey), I already have my ninja stuff in the car. I'll stop
at Gart and pick up some thing reflective on my way to Wash Park. I
have a helmet, wrist braces, and knee pads.
I think I'll stay on the park loops. Maybe, if you wouldn't mind, we
can practice some downhill stops, pothole jumps and general
manuevering.
I'm really excited to do this!

I am planning to make my 2006 skating debut tonight! I am not yet sure if I will be leaving the park, though. Last time I skated I did not have sufficient nerve control in my right leg to use my brake, so I'm hesitant to be too aggressive right out of the starting block. Chris and I are both currently in grad school part time, so intended updates for the DISC site have not yet been made due to our crazy schedules. We hope to have site updates made within a couple of weeks.
While I am inclined to offer a penalty for KW just for the fun of it, DISC should not really be too critical of our 2-wheeled friends. How about for a penalty we task KW (and KU, for being too absent) with coordinating a spring party? Thoughts or ideas?
Nice! K.W. When are you going to come
back out to Wash
park? I am sure I missed you two weeks ago when there were 10 people on the
skate. (of course I am assuming you were one of the 10) ;)
I know most of those people didn’t
show up last week. Missed out on Fado’s and everything.
I would be up for skating tonight. Let’s
plan on making tonight another skate night. Weather should hold out for us.

Re: new to the club
Welcome to the treehouse
Jennifer! Don't worry about keeping up, there is usually a
slacker skater like me along to bring up the rear. Most folks skate a few laps
in Wash ark
and then skate downtown although some of us may stay in the park and some skate
in the
park and then drive to a downtown watering hole to meet the group.
Is anyone planning to skate tonight?
I also thought i should report that there may be a traitor in our midst. A once
loyal
supporter of the club ( i won't name names K.W ) was spotted on 2 wheels
saturday at CherryCreekState Park.
Isn't that a violation of club regulations?

Welcome Jennifer. Good to hear new people interested in coming out to
skate. There shouldn't be too much to worry about... we keep together
and don't let anyone fall behind.
We meet in the parking lot off of Downing and Exposition usually
between 6:00pm - 6:30pm (or there abouts). We hit the streets at
7:00pm. I hope you are able to make it out and have some fun.
Unfortunately, I will not be able to make it this Wednesday due to
work. Hopefully I'll see you and everyone else out there next week.

Hi,
My name is Jennifer. I'm new to the group and have never been along on
a skate. I would like to join this evening, but I'm a bit nervous
about my ability to keep up.
Please let me know where and what time to meet so, in case I can't
think of a good excuse not to go, I can find you all!
Is there anything else I need to know?
Jennifer.
