I am About.com's Figure Skating Guide, but I am also writing the blog for About.com's Inline Skating site. I've been a member of this Yahoo group (although I've never made it to Denver to skate since I live in Colorado Springs) for quite awhile.
Anyway...is it okay if I use the photo from this group's Yahoo page for a blog post I'm writing about weekly group social skating?
If it is okay, I'll put the photo on the blog post tonight. If anyone objects, let me know. It would give this group great publicity!

I'm new to the group and can't make it tonight.
I recently moved to Colorado in Westminster and would like to find people to
skate with, especially since I don't know where to go. It's supposed to be
great weather this weekend so it would be nice to skate somewhere and with
some company.
Anyone with suggestions, please contact me at nkjwa@.... or at

Anyone up for a few laps around Wash Park tonight at the usual time (around

The Camp is designed for Beginner and Advanced Beginner students. If
you already know how to brake well and skate forward with some
proficiency, you are probably past this. I provide lots of advanced
instruction but this takes place on our skate tours.
Allan - Thanks for the info. I have another question for you.
What level is the instruction? Is it just for never-evers or can
intermediate skaters attend also?

Hi Dan,
I don't think anyone on this list has experience with Camp Rollerblade,
so I will respond myself. I run Zephyr Adventures which includes both
Zephyr Inline Skate Tours and Camp Rollerblade. Last year we ran camps
in 13 cities across the US and taught over 200 people to skate. I ran
the Broomfield camp myself with the help of one of my employees. Both
of us were certified by the Inline Certification Program and teach
regularly on our skate tours and five-day skate camps. Camp
Rollerblade, as you saw on the site, includes 10 hours of lessons and
is a great way to learn to skate in one weekend. You can also take
lessons from a certified instructor; I believe Michael Brown is still
an instructor but I am not sure if he is active on this list or still
instructing anymore. If you or anyone else would like references from
past Camp Rollerblade students, please let me know. I am on this list
serve because I live in Boulder, although Zephyr is based in Montana.
I see that CampRollerBlade
(dot-com) has a weekend instruction course in Broomfield 02-03 June.
Does anyone have any experience with this outfit? Is there a better way
to learn that anyone recommends?

That's alright that some went today -- and some, tomorrow (I plan to
be there 2:30pm at 25th & Sheridan parking lot.) How did it go, Ed?

logical, but may not quite work out to the extend u think it would (if any) since the frame is designed to offset that "crouching like stance" for more level skating. (falling backward is bad, so is falling forward too, hence why, the need for a proper level skating posture to ensure no tendency to fall forward, etc.)

It means your natural stance is a little forward and facilitates keeping a better forward balance. Less prone to leaning back and losing it.
I am a long time skater and just bought a new pair of K2's
the wheels are on front (80mm 80a) and on back (84mm 80 a) Does
anyone know why they put different size wheels on the skates? I was
told by Fritz skate shop in Miami to even up the wheels for better
balance.
Any input about this? I skated on them once so far and they do feel
a little unbalanced.

of cuz, with a hi-lo setup (by definition), one experiences less balance... it's a setup with the idea of trying to get the best of both world
1) smaller front wheels => more maneuverability (ie., tighter turns, better acceleration) 2) larger back wheels => but still wanting the higher cruising speed afforded by bigger wheels
like many things in life, u will get used to it assuming the fit is good.
the poss issue i can think of is being that smaller front wheels will wear down first, and even tho there's still life left on the bigger (back) wheels, all 4 wheels (really 8 since left and right skates) must be replaced at once since if just replacing the 1st 2 smaller wheels will not only just compromise
on the hi-lo stance but much more seriously will results in tremendous unbalance due to only 3 or even only 2 wheels being inline (flat) with the ground.
not sure exactly what u meant by even up the wheels for better bal. since can't replace front with 84mm, u must mean to replace back with 80mm. if so, u will now not only have a stance that's not anatomically correctly (not to mention slower speed) but u also risk greater danger of falling backwards.
hope this helps.. ed

I was at Sloan's Lake Friday, and the trail there is 1/3 as wide as the one in Wash Park and yes, people there walk 4 abreast so I had to pull a fast T stop on several occasions. (Karen's really on the $$$ here :). View is great, but the area felt secluded, and perhaps even intimidating. Maybe cuz' was almost dark, water looked menacing (big lake), but in any case, parking area to trail, and some part of trail is really rough. In fact, I took a most unexpected spill since couldn't see a pot hole.
As for this weekend (SATURDAY) skate Kim suggested 2-3pm and inasmuch as i like 3pm, 2pm is it since forecast says possible thunderstorm at later evening.
Well, hope to see as many of you there and MAKE SURE to have
helmet and esp. protective pads. Might well have broken my wrists, and shattered my kneecaps had I not worn 'em at Sloan's yesterday.

Hello everyone :)!!
I hope everyone had a good winter!! I would
love to meet up for a skate on Saturday or Sunday,
mid-afternoon 2-3pm would be best since I am working
all weekend :(. My vote is for Wash Park over Sloans
Lake. When does the Wednesday Night Skate start up
again? Hopefully this nice weather will continue and
we can start soon! I won't be able to make it until
the middle of May, I'm off to Europe next week:) See
everyone soon!

Yes, indeed it was...esp. to you who had the extra
thrill (and pain) of riding the borrowed scooter
before you took that spill at ~10mph (still don't
quite understand how could that have happened)
On another note, I was just thinking... we met as a
group, started off as a group, and yet in the end,
were pretty much skating solo (due to our different
skating abilities). In a way it seems to kinda defeat
the purpose of doing group skate, so am just wondering
if it's possible to skate in waves of say, fast, med,
and slow group, etc, and perhaps the fast group can do
4 loops to the 3 med speed loops and to the 2 slow
group loops, and this way we get to catch up with one
another at the same time (in theory) or within
close(r) intervals (in practice (than otherwise)) as
one coherent group. In addition, this "skating in
waves" yield an unexpected bonus in that even the
slowest group can be competitive speed-wise vis-a-vis
the fastest group due to the 2-to-1 speed handicap
differential, and can only but galvanize all the
aforementioned groups to skate even faster to beat out
each other. Just my 2 cents.
What's the road/trail, etc, like at Sloan's lake? I
propose Sat perhaps later in the day!? (as the
mid-day strong ultra violet rays isn't exactly good
for the skin/eyes) But of course, whatever the time is
chosen works for me too.
ok, well a really great turnout for those that came.
We all had a fun time.

FYI, yes, you can get arrested for skating drunk, ID if it would be a DUI, maybe a drunk and disorderly. I have a friend who got a DUI on a bike and another who was arrested while walking home drunk. Of course they were both causing problems, but hey, behave yourself and you should be fine :)

Ed,
It was very nice meeting you as well.
We usually goto the restaurants/bars that have a patio, but a few do let us in (at the very least to go to the restroom).
I am sure that if the police wanted to, they could find an excuse to arrest someone who is skating intoxicated if they wanted to, but I am not aware of a specific law.
Some of us do wear helmets and pads, (I choose not to), but it is recommended. Also there is usually one person who happens to have a head lamp (which is also a very good idea).
Do most restaurants allow skaters in? (officially, I think they r not supposed to (ie., if case of a fall, liability issues, etc.)). Also, not being facetious, but I was wondering if there is a alcohol limit for a skater/cyclist/pedestrian ...ie., the 0.08% limit for a car driver = DUI (or SUI in our case). Anyone knows?
Yeah, that downtown adventure sounds v good. Do u guys actually bring along sneakers, etc? Also, do u guys wear helmet lamps since probably dark when heading back?

That is confirmed... We skate every Wednesday at Wash Park in the summer. We skate a few laps then usually hit the streets and go downtown; usually stop at a restaurant/bar then head back via the Cherry Creek Path. Time is usually 6:00pm and leave for downtown around 7:00pm.
Yeah, v nice meeting you too. I was actually going to do a last lap with you (esp. when saw u skating solo) but unfortunately, I had developed a bad blister by then, and so was pretty much out of commission.
Thanks for the "vote of confidence" re: the wave idea. What's nice about it is that a skater is free to jump from one sub-group to another, and to yet another, if so desire. Honestly tho', it probably only works well (if at all) for the faster skater who can slower down, as opposed to the slower skater who is unlikely to be able to speed up.
Sure, we can do the Wed thing. I seem to understand that every year there is an official and regular Wed meet in May at a fix time (6pm!?) whereby no one needs to ever pre-announce said rendezvous but just come by. Can anyone confirm
this?
Unfortunately, I cannot make the skate this weekend and look forward to Wednesday's in the future! It was great meeting & skating with you all this past
weekend. The "wave" idea sounds interesting. It was tough trying to stay up with the guys in front. Thanks, Karen for your Sloan's Lake comments. I'm sure Joe would appreciate not having to deal with any more road rash!

Sorry Joe that you got hurt - - how's the knee healing? Eddie, thanks for all that info on getting more efficient on blades, though am not quite ready to switch into 4 flat wheels yet. Pat, nice talking with you about the craft. Amy -- when you are ready to blade, I've love to go with you. And ... uh, I think I am forgetting someone's name. SEE you all next time sometime.

In addition, this "skating in waves" yield an unexpected bonus in that even the slowest group can be competitive speed-wise vis-a-vis the fastest group due to the 2-to-1 speed handicap differential, and can only but galvanize all the aforementioned groups to skate even faster to

Sloan's lake is bordered by Sheridan, 17th ave, & 24th ave. (in Lakewood). I, myself, would like to check it out (as I have never ever been there) and the irony is I was actually at Sheridan/16th ave today, but never quite got the chance to see it or anything remotely having the semblance of a lake/lake proper a block away. But as I will be there again tomorrow, I hope I have the time to scout the area, and if so, will let u/all know of my findings.
On another note, as of this writing, I'm not sure if the consensus is for Sat or Sun, Sloan or Wash park.

(in practice (than otherwise)) as one coherent group. In addition,
this "skating in waves" yield an unexpected bonus in that even the
slowest group can be competitive speed-wise vis-a-vis the fastest
group due to the 2-to-1 speed handicap differential, and can only but
galvanize all the aforementioned groups to skate even faster to beat
out each other. Just my 2 cents.

I seem to understand that every year there is an official and regular Wed meet in May at a fix time (6pm!?) whereby no one needs to ever
pre-announce said rendezvous but just come by. Can anyone confirm this?
Unfortunately, I cannot make the skate this weekend and look forward to Wednesday's in the future! It was great meeting & skating with you all this past weekend.
