Inter Milan, last week's Top 25 leader, suffered a 2-1 setback to Chievo on
Saturday. Juventus took advantage of the loss to move into a tie for first place
in Serie A. Juve scored two goals in the first 30 minutes en route to a 2-1 win
at Parma on Sunday.
Elsewhere in Italy, Milan needed to rally for two second half goals for a draw
against Lazio.
For the second straight season, Real Madrid failed to take a point from Osasuna
in Pamplona. The defending European champs dropped a 1-0 decision on Sunday and
remain two points off of the Liga Primera lead.
Liga Primera leaders Real Sociedad suffered its second loss of the season in a
3-2 defeat at Real Betis. Betis scored two goals in the final five minutes,
including a questionable penalty call in injury time to pull out the victory.
Valencia and Deportivo took advantage of the Sociedad and Real Madrid losses to
close the gap atop of the Liga Primera table.
Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich received a hat trick from Mehmet Scholl in a
5-0 win over local rivals 1860 Munich.
Portuguese league leaders FC Porto suffered its first loss of the season on the
weekend and dropped three spots in the rankings.
Belgian league leaders Club Brugge improved to 19-1-1 on the season while
Besiktas remained on top in Turkey.
Argentina's Clausura season began last weekend and Boca Juniors opened with a
victory over Nueva Chicago. Independiente, the Apertura champions, lost its
opener to Lanus.
Dutch league leaders PSV soundly defeated FC Zwolle 6-0 and Ajax kept pace with
a 2-1 victory over Groningen.
