In 2002 East End Volleyball will be part of the AVPNext Program, the grassroots program of the AVP. This affiliation will replace all previous affiliations with the AVA. All players in EEVB's 2002 program will have to become AVPNext members with a $10 annual membership fee.
Affiliation with the AVPNext program will allow players to be part of the AVPNext ranking and rating program and will allow open division players to earn AVP points that can help them obtain higher seeding or even direct entry into AVP tournaments. Plus 2 EEVB women's teams will earn direct entry into the AVP Belmar main draw. EEVB will be hold an amateur event alongside the Belmar, NJ AVP tournament (June 28th - June 30th).
AVP points will be awarded at the majority of 2002 EEVB tournaments including all 6 Florida events in March. Additional tournaments that receive points will be posted on the EEVB web site in the next 60 days.
The open division at EEVB tournaments that award AVP points will use all AVP competition rules and regulations (including rally-scoring, ranking system, official AVP ball, AVP-certified court size, etc.).
AVPNext membership will give players the following benefits:
- Membership card
- Incorporated within the AVPNext National Rating/Ranking
- Open division male & female players to receive AVP points
- AVP newsletter
- 15% Discounts on AVP merchandise
- Access to all AVPNext events
Plus EEVB will be receiving additional sponsor products for prizes and sampling.
Everyone knows that beach volleyball has had some management/promotional/image problems at the top levels. While we are not 100% happy with all of the rule changes and different agendas throughout the sport, EEVB feels that it is best for the sport to get behind 1 group in a unified effort to build up beach volleyball. The idea of a grassroots program throughout the US that feeds players into a national pro tour which then sends players on to the Olympics makes a lot of sense. Reaching that goal is why we are switching to AVPNext and are requiring all players to become members.
