leg
recuperatory period. Thank you!!!

We thank you for your support, and encourage you to share this email with your
friends!
DCRG fans and friends,
As you may have heard, Bad Penny broke her leg Monday night at practice. Want
to help
our league founder get rolling again?
While insurance will cover her medical needs, Penny could use a few of your
extra pennies,
getting through the recuperation time. See, she works on her feet--doing hair
and
waiting tables. She won't be able to do either one while her leg is healing.
So here's your chance to do a good deed today--help us raise some $ to cover Bad
Penny's living expenses while she's on the mend.
Visit our fundable link:
http://www.fundable.com/groupactions/groupaction.2008-07-08.2427196996
You won't be charged for your pledge unless we meet our fundraising goal--and we
know
we can do it, with YOUR help!
Please feel free to post the link, and pass the word around. Your pennies from
heaven can
give this rollergirl some much needed good luck.

Well, though it'll still be a while before you get to see your Derby City Rollergirls bout again, we do have a few upcoming events, and also a few announcements. So grab your calendars and take notes.
First, we want to remind you about the LVAA Boat Race Party tomorrow, Wednesday April 30th. The Louisville Visual Art Association's annual Boat Race Party is a family-friendly event providing a scenic backdrop for the day's main attraction, the Great Steamboat Race. The party takes place in the park-like setting of the Water Tower grounds at 3005 River Road. Partygoers can cheer the local favorite Belle of Louisville alongside the banks of the Ohio. Food and refreshments, arts and crafts, rides and performers, featuring the Radio Disney crew, School of Rock and Step-N-Out Dance School, are included in the ticket price and keep the activity level high for children and adults throughout the day. Ample free parking and covered dining tents add an extra level of comfort and convenience. Boat Race Party festivities begin at 3:30 PM and continue through 7:30 PM. Tickets can be ordered by mail, phone, or in person at the Louisville Visual Art Association's offices at the Water Tower, 896-2146. For complete information, contact lvs@... or call 896-2146, ext. 108. Come thirsty and tip generously, as the DCRG's guest bartenders will be working for tips!
The next event will be coming up on Sunday, May 18th. It's a Call-Out Picnic in Tyler Park (on Baxter Ave between Eastern Pkwy and Mid City Mall), from 2pm - 4pm.Calling all future rollergirls ages 21 and older, with valid health insurance: If you're interested in being part of a homegrown, kick-butt, hard-skating roller derby league in Louisville, KY, we want to meet you, whether you know how to skate or not. If you've got a sense of adventure and a lot of heart, come on out and meet us for a little Q&A and BBQ. All body types and skating levels are encouraged to participate. This event also doubles as a celebratory party for our recently graduated rookies, who passed their assessments last weekend. So come on out and meet our newest rollergirls, and find out how to become one yourself. RSVP to info@... or by visiting myspace.com/derbycityrollergirls and sending a message there. Did you miss DCRG on KET's Louisville Life program? Well it's not too late to see it. Visit KET's website and you can stream the show online or download it as a video podcast. I just finally got around to watching it, and it was really well done! It was definitely one of the better video pieces that has been done on DCRG, so check it out! (Though the entire show is 26 minutes long, DCRG's segment is only 5-6 minutes and is the first one, fyi.)
And lastly, our Fall Meet home opener has finally been scheduled. DCRG will take on the Dixie Derby Girls of Hunstville, Alabama on July 26th at the Fairgrounds! They are a Women's Flat Track Derby Association(WFTDA) ranked team and will be stiff competition, but your DCRG will be ready for it! More info about this and all the upcoming bouts as the dates near.
Here's the rest of DCRG's schedule for 2008:
Summer (Away Bouts): June 21 - DCRG v. Hard Knox (in Knoxville) July 19 - DCRG v. Bleeding Heartland Flatliners (in Bloomington, Indiana)
Fall Meet (Home Bouts) July 26 - DCRG v. Dixie Derby Girls of Hunstville, Alabama September 6 - DCRG v. Nashville Rollergirls Rhythm and Bruisers October 4 - DCRG v. Black n Bluegrass Rollergirls of Northern Kentucky
That's it for now. We hope to see you out and about soon!
Roller derby fans, we're in a long dry spell. DCRG's next home bout out at the Fairgrounds isn't until the end of July, and though we certainly hope and want you all to come to our away bouts in Knoxville and Bloomington, Indiana in June and July, we certainly understand not everyone can. (Dates for those bouts below.) So in the mean time, how about partying with us? Tis the season, ya know. (Derby season, of course!) But we're not going with just any old Derby theme. Horses, schmorses. We're going HAWAIIAN!
That's right. It says "Comeoniwannaslaya." Witty, no? Break out your best luau gear (doesn't everyone own a grass skirt?) and join us for some uninhibited fun this Saturday night (April 19th) at the Monkey Wrench (corner of Barret and Winter), starting at 9 p.m. Cover is only $5 with all proceeds going to your Derby City Rollergirls, Louisville's only grassroots, women's flat track roller derby league. DJ Kim Sorise will be setting the mood and hopefully inspiring you to limbo (!), and who knows what other mischief DCRG has in store. The only way to find out is to show up!
Also, with that other Derby gearing up, let me mention another date you might want to jot down on your calendar. DCRG will again be guest bartending for the LVAA Boat Race Party, Wednesday April 30th. Here's the official blurb:
The Louisville Visual Art Association's annual Boat Race Party is a family-friendly event providing a scenic backdrop for the day's main attraction, the Great Steamboat Race. Come thirsty and tip generously, as the DCRG will be working for tips at the LVAA boatrace party!
OK, you are now updated. Here's those away bout dates, and we hope to see you on Saturday!
Upcoming out of town DCRG Bouts:
June 21 - Away bout v. Hard Knox Rollergirls of Knoxville, TN July 19 - Away bout v. Bleeding Heartland Rollergirls of Bloomington, IN
DCRG's SPRING FLING with the Cincinnati Rollergirls' Black Sheep (their all-star travel team) is almost upon us. It's THIS Saturday, April 5th at the usual place, KFEC's West Hall. Doors open at 5:30pm and the bout starts at 7pm.
This is a very special bout, not only because it's the end of our spring home bouting season, but also because it marks some important transitions for DCRG players, including the home debut of two new skaters, the return from injury for one veteran, and the last bout for another veteran. Lil Bo Teeps and Smokahontas will be making their home bouting debuts, Raquel Squelch makes her triumphant return after breaking her leg in an away game last October, and MaMalicious, who has been with the league since the very first organizational meeting in the Summer of 2006, will be officially retiring after this bout, in anticipation of her move to New Orleans this summer to pursue her PhD. at Tulane University. All this and more makes the SPRING FLING the bout not to miss this season!
DO YOU HAVE YOUR TICKETS YET? Well if you don't, you can still get 'em at advance prices ($11 + fees) via Ticketmaster.com or at any Ticketmaster outlet. Or you can take your chances getting them at the door, for $16. The last two bouts have sold out, though, so consider yourself warned. And remember, it is your last chance til the end of July to see your Derby City Rollergirls at home here in Louisville, so don't miss out. And bring all your friends!
Afterwards, the party is on again at the Monkey Wrench. Your bout ticket stub gets you in for free, or it's only a $3 suggested donation for Kosair Children's Hospital at the door. Whether we win or lose, it's always a rockin' time at the After Party, and with this bout already having so much cause for celebration, it's liable to be amped up a notch regardless of the score.
Speaking of partying, TAILGATING IS ON again this Saturday, with a little later starting time and a little closer location to our venue. This time we got permission to use Lot L, which is directly west of West Hall (to the left if you're looking at it head-on), so the DCRG Thunder fan club will be out there by 4pm, getting geared up for the bout. Bring food, your beverage of choice (NO KEGS), and wear your black and red gear. The weather forecast as of now predicts mostly sunny skies and a high of 63 degrees, so that sounds just about perfect for tailgating! I missed out last time, so I'm really looking forward to it! Please come join us!
Make those posters. Gather up those noisemakers. Bring those screaming voices. And muster up all your excitement... 'cause the SPRING FLING is ON, and DCRG is ready to rumble! Watch out Black Sheep!
Wow! What a bout that was on Saturday night, huh? Even though DCRG lostby seven points (final score: BRRG 92, DCRG 85), that was one helluvamatch-up, and both teams played their hearts out. Our gals are to becommended for giving it their all, through the final jam. They sure hadsome momentum going in that last period - if they'd have only had a fewmore minutes on the clock...
Congratulations to BRRG, who were both mighty opponents and classyladies, to boot. But they better watch out for DCRG next time!
Speaking of next time... the next home bout is only 10 days away, remember? Yep, Saturday April 5th, your Derby City Rollergirls take onCincinnati's Rollergirls in a bout titled SPRING FLING. Sametime and place - 7 p.m. at the KY Expo Center's West Hall. (Doors openat 5:30 p.m.) It's the last bout of the Spring Meet, meaning, your lastchance to see your DCRG at home at the Fairgrounds until July. (Thenext several bouts are out of town.) Cincinnati is a very competitiveteam, and this will be another very hard-hitting, fast-paced game. Sodon't miss out.
Tickets are currently on sale via Ticketmaster,if you haven't picked them up already. $11 in advance and $16 at thedoor on the day of the event. And we really aren't kidding orexaggerating when we say, get 'em early, because both bouts this seasonhave sold out - don't risk being turned away at the door. Get thosetickets now!
Oh, and I almost forgot. There was indeed tailgating last time, thoughthe almost-freezing temperatures, wind chill and overcastness of theday kept the numbers low. We're hoping for nicer weather this nexttime, and we're bumping the time up to 4 p.m. We're investigatingtrying to get a closer location, too, so we'll let you know where assoon as we figure it out. Stay tuned... but plan on it!
If you want to see some photos and videos from SOUTHERN HOSTILITY, hop over to our Facebook page for all the links. While you're there, become our fan! (I know you're already our friend on MySpace, right?)
Lastly, check out the latest promo video thrown together by The Thunderbolt, DCRG's unofficial fan club's official blog, and check back there often to know what The Thunder is up to.
And as always, all the scoop can be found on DCRG's website.
So nurse those sore screaming throats, gather up even louder noisemakers, make some posters for your favorite rollergirls, and start psyching yourself up for the SPRING FLING! We'll see you there!
Roller derby fans, are you ready for DCRG's bout this Saturday against the Blue Ridge Rollergirls of Asheville, NC?
Southern Hostility, indeed.
Do you have your tickets?
If not, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? Don't risk being turned away at the door. Get them now! You can still get 'em at the advance ticket price of $10 plus fees via Ticketmaster HERE . Or you can call to order them or pick 'em up at any Ticketmaster location. (Of course, if you're a gambler, you can wait til Saturday and buy them at the door for $15, if there are any left!)
Be sure to specify, though, that you want tickets for SOUTHERN HOSTILITY on March 22nd, as pre-sale tickets for Ticketmaster club members for the April 5th SPRING FLING bout against Cincinnati are also currently on sale, so there's been a little confusion.
(General admission tickets for the SPRING FLING bout go on sale to the public Saturday morning at 10 a.m., so you can actually pick those up in person at the Kentucky Expo Center when you come to the bout on Saturday!)
OK, now that we've got all that straightened out, do you remember me telling you that there would be tailgating for this bout? Well it's definitely on! The weather forecast for Saturday is partly cloudy and temperatures in the mid to upper 40's - a little cool but generally pretty darned good tailgating weather. Just go to Lot H (right inside Gate 4 - check the map here ) between 1:30 and 5 p.m. and look for all the crazy DCRG fans in their red and black gear! We'll be there, eating, drinking and generally workin' ourselves into a frenzy in anticipation of the bout. The only rules are: don't bring any kegs, don't be disorderly, and pick up after yourselves. Seems pretty simple to me! So come on out and join us! The more the merrier!
Doors for the bout open at 5:30 p.m. and the bout starts at 7 p.m. Get there early if you want those good seats! And then after the bout, don't forget about the After Party at the Monkey Wrench (1025 Barret at Winter). That last one was off the hook! Keep your bout ticket stubs, as they gain you free entrance to the After Party - it's $3 for everyone else, with proceeds going to the Kosair Children's Hospital this time. And though DJ Kim Sorise will be spinning at the actual bout, DJ Matt Anthony will take over for the After Party this time, just to shake things up.
OK, that's it. Posters are below for both upcoming bouts with all the pertinent information. Don't forget to wear your black and red. Noisemakers are encouraged! And we'll see you on Saturday!!!
