It's okay to not have your name on the Cup when you are doing something larger than that, and I believe Darren McCarty is. He is proving to be a leader by helping put the Grand Rapids young guns in the spotlight. The name of Darren McCarty will appear not on the Cup, but on the skeins of Time and Space for helping to develop great players for years to come with the Red Wings. I could not be prouder of him each time I see Helms flying down the ice; Ericsson handing out massive hits; Abdelkader scoring goals as easily as tossing a bun into a fire; Leino overmatching Penguin play. I believe all this would not be possible without the work of Darren McCarty. Coaches can tell players how to work out strategy, but the player who can work it through with them is just as valuable. There are
great things in store for Darren, and I am excited to see it happen. Go Red Wings! Go D-Mac!
