I expect pictures and a range report when you get it. OK? If I can't own one
at least I can get gratification from those in the free states who can.

well see now i didnt know that. was that 460 dw sence the case was only 1.610
could it have been the first 445 ( 44 ) cal insted of the 45 cal like the 460
if it was the first 45 cal 460 then i dont see why they couldnt make me a 460
with a 12in barrel with a 1:9 twist they would have the spec on it all ready and
the outher thing is would the cup psi be lower becuase with my 460 45cal they
have tested it to be at a mas of 90,000psi and i have shot loads out of it of
85,172 psi

ps that wouldnt be your dw 460 wuould it : ) and thankyou for the pics its alwas
a pleasher to see such beauty at its finest

Gerald,
Well, better you shooting that 460 then me. I like big guns too but HAND
CANNONS, I don't know. Maybe some day I can figure out a way to buy a DW
1911. If this state ever turns around or if I manage to escape. I own a lot
of firearms but no 1911 (YET). Only a matter of time. I don't know about
shooting a .40 S&W out of a 10mm. I think the .40 is loaded to a higher
pressure then the 10 but I certainly could be mistaken. Ask the group. There
are a lot of folks here that have a lot more knowledge than I do. Be careful

well i have a buddy who is a gun smith in oregon that has 3 dw 1911 both 45
cal and one 10 mil and we went shooting a while ago and the dw 1911 out
perform my p 220st for distance, recole, and acc. the dw was also much
lighter then the sig the 10 mil was all most the same waight as the sig ( to
me anyway ) but he also told me that the dw 10 mil is the only one that will
not fall apart after shooting many rounds like the rest of the 10 mil out
there and we all know that the 10 mill is the bigger cal to the 40 mil so i
am wondering if u can shoot 40 mil out of the 10 mill sence all the 10 mill
is the same shell case as the 40 mill but just longer? be like taking a 357
and shooting a 38spl out of it.
well i do go bufflow hunting with my 460 but i guess its not so much the
type of pistol as is the performance of the pistol the 460 will take a 230
gn bull and will put it out there at 2550 fps with 400 yards of dead acc. or
it might be 350 cant rember right off the top of my head but still your not
going to get that out of the 445 and the recole from the 460 is about the
same as the 445 i dont notice much dif but im a pretty big person and the
recole and noise dont both me a bit and for some reason i have this thing
that the heaver the gun the better i can aim with it but thats neather here
or there and i know the 460 ways 80 oz and if my math is right that is 5lbs
i just wish that dw would make a 460 and i am half tempeted to call them up
and as hey can you make me a 460 cal on the 445 frame lol well i have said
way to much now and have taken up enough of your time : )

I added into the photo section a picture of one of two 460 supermags
made by Dan Wesson, it is #2, they never made it into production, but
it was made before S&W made thier 500 and 460. The case is shorter than
the 460 S&W. It is the standard supermag length of 1.610. Just thought
I would share I only own the 445 Supermag right now hope to have more.

Gerald,
You're welcome. I have a Sig P220 and it shoots like butter. I would love to
get my hands on a DW 1911 but since I am a prisoner of the PRK I am not
allowed to have one of those "unsafe firearms". When you get yours, let me
know who she shoots. From what I read it should have all the good things but
you never know. DW used to do all kinds of things for customers but since
the CZ buyout I just don't know if their custom shop is still in business.
What are you shooting in this country that a 445 is too small. What needs a
460 that a 445 wont take with less trauma to your wrist, arms and ears?
Have a great weekend.
PapaRon

Gerald,
Welcome. You have owned a DW for 5 years and still only have one. What is
wrong with you? Seriously, they are beautiful revolvers are they not. I have
a .22 built on the same frame as the .357 and you talk about no recoil. The
only way I know it fired on a noisy range is to look to see if the hammer is
down.
Again, welcome.

I haven't followed this Whole String, but if you can 'simply find' what you
want,(DW Model... '15?', 357 Full Shroud 6" bbl, [& bbl Wrench], at a
reasonable price, but NON-ported, you can always have Magna-Port, or a
QUALIFIED
'Smith port it For you...?!
I've got a Model 15 w/ 4" bbl, bbl wrench and original gap-guage, adjustable
sights, new Factory side plate [about... 10 yrs ago??! It Looks a LITTLE
'Funky,' because the New Parts they put on it are a nice, deep Blue, but the
Rest of the Gun, 'Originally' has that... Deep, DARK 'Bugugundy' color. and THE
'Sweetest Trigger' of probably ANY gun I own! Both dbl AND sngl action, but
ESPECIALLY sngl action!
So, I'll gladly 'put up with' the Odd, Two-Tone action!

Good Luck on your Search! (BTW, to Whomever mentioned it, I had NO idea
that eBay sold Guns?? or is it just Gun PARTS?? I haven't 'Been' to eBay for a
LONG time; might be worth a look now!)
Do you happen to know if they ALSO 'Deal In' WWI 'Memorabilia?!' I've got
Several Very Nice, 3-piece, Ceramic 'Officers' Pipes; One with a portrait of
Von Hindenburg, One w/portriat of... Augh! Can't remember just now, and one
with an 'Iron Cross'. I don't need all three. Don't think I'd 'Let Go of'
my 'Near Perfect, All Original, WITH cloth cover' 'Picklehauser[?!] {Spiked
Helmet} unless someone was willing to pay THOUSANDS [and it MAY be Worth It
to the RIght Buyer...?} OR my Officers sword or Enlisted mans sword. "95%"
Belt, Buclke, and Matching Epaulets, and Spurs... Not Sure. Anyway, This isn't
the Place for THIS 'Discussion!' BUT... IF anywone knows of a Site that
Specializes in that kind of 'Stuff,' I'd be most grateful to Know!

Good Luck again on your Barrel/etc., Search!

.357 is what I am looking for, all of the auction sights don't seem
to have them. I had priced them before from the factory and they
were more then I paid for my gun used.

Thanks,

What caliber of gun is this for?

I just checked on a 445SM 4"VH comp stainless barrel from CZ and
they want $410.00 for the barrel and shroud, they are double the
price of a none comp barrel. If you can find them used buy them.

First, you should realize that the DW 357 SuperMag is actually
chambered for a cartridge called the 357 SuperMag not withstanding the
fact that it is marked 357 Maximum. The 357 SuperMag is a bit longer
than the 357 Maximum and handles heavier bullets better.

I don't have any specific loads to hand, but in general, leave the
light bullet hyper velocity loads to the single shots. Go for a
bullet weight of 158 grains or heavier. That's what this revolver was
meant to shoot in the first place. Most of the scare stories that
used to circulate about the 357 Maximum eating revolvers stemmed from
light bullet hyper velocity loads using the wrong powder.

Nominal length of the 357 Maximum case is 1.605 inch. The SuperMag
case is 1.610 inch not much different. I buy 357 Maximum empty brass
and generally find it to actually be 1.610. Most of the extra length
in the 357 SuperMag is due to seating heavy bullets out farther for
more OAL, allowing a bit more powder room. I know a guy who has a
Ruger 357 maximum, the 357 SuperMag loads will not chamber in it, the
bullet sticks out the front of the cylinder.

OK, but is that a Band-Aid or the real solution to the problem? I
have the same issue with bith the 6 inch and the 8 inch barrels.
I'm inclined to think its the basic machining of the pistol.

Hi to all here, the new website I helped start,
WWW.HUNTERSONLY.COM , is getting so busy that I probably will have to
drop out of your group. I have enjoyed looking at your photos and
reading your posts, but with the new site having over 50 posts per
week, and rising, I am running out of time. We now have over 300
members and over 1000 posts in 5 months, so it is VERY active, and a
ton of fun. Good luck to all here in the coming seasons, and I hope
you visit HuntersOnly sometime. Olen.

Read up on the gun and cartridge, as well as the other super mags
(357 & 454) in an article at the at the IHMSA website
http://www.ihmsa.org/tom/techarticles/dan_wesson_414_supermag.htm
(there was also a later 375 SM). Brass is about 0.30" longer than 41
mag. Bullet diameter is the same. If you don't load, there are a
few companies that will probably make some up for you (there's at
least one that makes .357 Maximum (357 Super Mag).

Check out the IHMSA message board at
http://www.aimoo.com/forum/categories.cfm?id=388847&CategoryID=236810
and you might find one listed for sale.

Welcome to the forum.

What you have is a 414 SUPER MAG in stainless steel.
http://www.ihmsa.org/tom/techarticles/dan_wesson_414_supermag.htm
It could be worth up to $1000.00 if you find the right buyer, They are
currently not being made but the ne Danwesson company, http://www.cz-
usa.com/01.09.php may start again. I beleive that there are no
manufactures making bullets for it, but if you are a handloader you can
buy brass from, http://www.starlinebrass.com/ This is a 41mag stretched
to 1.610. If I were you I would hang on to it, but if you are going to
sell it it will sell quickly.

never heard of. Does anybody know anything about this gun and what
it's worth?
