Hi Folks, I am looking to purchase a DW in 357 here in Adelaide Australia. It
only has the following stamped on it:
Dan Wesson Arms, Monson MA
Dan Wesson 357 S/No 217798
To look at it has the pork chop shape, and the round nut retaining the barrel
inside the front of the shroud.
I think it is a model 15/1 from what I have been able to learn from the internet
and this site.
Can anyone confirm this based on the serial number, or description that I have
given.
Thanks John Hunter

Mike,
I have 5 DWs and would not shoot anything but jacketed ammo in them.
Cylinder gap is easily corrected. If you are shooting a 2.5" barrel you
need all the stability you can get since the barrel does not have much time
to stabilize the bullet. If the lead bullets are specific selected for your
barrel, they should be fine but you won't get much forgiveness from that
short barrel. I don't reload and have never had a problem with clad bullets
besides lead is a bear to clean and you have to do it every time you shoot.
Just my $0.02 worth.
PapaRon
Thanks PapaRon. your advice seems to be the same as everyone elses here and in
other forums. Thanks for the reply. Take Care, mikey

Greetings all!
I am considering the purchase of a DW service model 14-2 heavy underlug. 2
1/2" barrel. It came in its original box and the gun has a very solid lockup
and is 98%. I shot it on Saturday and used magtech .38 158gr. non-jacketed
ammo. Fully 60% of the hits on paper had keyholes. I checked the cylinder
gap with the tool and found some play but not much. Thinking it was the
non-jacketed ammo, I switched to some .357 jacketed Blazer and while only
shooting 6 rounds, I didn't keyhole anything. Some of the guys at work say
steer clear, some say no problem. What do you guy's think?? Thanks in
advance,
mikey

I have two 15s and they love lead bullets. The 6 and 8 inch barrels have
no trouble stabilizing my 158 gr. SWC 38 handloads It may be that the
commercial .38 loads move too slow to stabilize in the short barrel. Maybe the
cylinder gap is too large. Maybe the bullets are undersized. Maybe there is
no good explanation.
I also have never had a problem with leading.
I have a question also. Can you put a model 15 barrel and shroud on a model 14
frame?
I have no idea if a 15 barrel will fit a 14 frame. I'm just as new as they come
to Dan Wessons.

I've heard that doubt from DW, by email. They seemed to think it authentic
enough when I returned it, but the don't seem to have parts for it, but for the
sideplate.
Still, it's a dark blue 6" small frame revolver with fixed sights and the
external "acorn nut" barrel nut, transfer bar trigger. Says on the side:
DAN WESSON ARMS
MONSON, MASS. USA
-MODEL NO.-D11-
Serial number is behind the cylinder latch, 32697
Too well made a gun to be counterfeit, I think. Does have some dubious
engineering, but exquisitely executed..

I'm old enough I'll never be a competitive class shooter, but nothing I own (and
I own a bunch of handguns) groups as well as my DW.
Parts for anything I've inquired about, have been available.

After the gun was returned to DW, I was utterly unable to talk to anybody there
about any of this, no-one answered their 'phone. After a couple of months, the
gun came back with a note that they couldn't fix the cylinder stop, they would
have to replace the side plate entire, and re-blue the gun, for only $350. I
took it to a local smith, who lost the mainspring.

Hi there,
I am doing some research for a friend who has been given a Dan Wesson .44
Magnum in a display case.
The Card in the case says the revolver is a "Special Collector's Production
Run Number Two" to introduce the Dan Wesson .44 Magnum.
It is a Dove Grey finish and says the serial numbers for the limited 250 run
is between 000251 and 000500 and the serial number of the gun does fall
between those numbers and it has never been fired.
Any info or value on this gun?
ANY and ALL information is GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks a million!!!

Hi there,
I am doing some research for a friend who has been given a Dan Wesson .44 Magnum
in a display case.
The Card in the case says the revolver is a "Special Collector's Production Run
Number Two" to introduce the Dan Wesson .44 Magnum.
It is a Dove Grey finish and says the serial numbers for the limited 250 run is
between 000251 and 000500 and the serial number of the gun does fall between
those numbers and it has never been fired.
Any info or value on this gun?
ANY and ALL information is GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks a million!!!
Cheers

I'd Love to have a blued 4" Heavy barrel & possibly a 10" 12" or 15"er
That's the beauty of the DW design..

Darrell,
What might float your boat? C&R, Modern, Semi-Auto, Rifle, Pistol?
Give me an idea of your interest.
Thanks for the offer.

If you have a reasonable trade, I have a Dan Wesson SS 41 Mag I might be
willing to part with.

Just a warning Gary; "One is never enough". I have a number of .357 and
one .22 and have been looking for .41 or .44 mag for years. Be prepared to
be always on the lookout for another.
Welcome abord.
