Does anyone know of a reasonably priced Dan Wesson 445 SuperMag that is for
sale?

Thanks

I can't give you a factory spec on this, but I would
suggest that leaving this alone may be your best bet.
Since the screw is spring loaded, I doubt it will ever
come loose, and the ability to remove and clean this
passageway may prove valuable. I own a 744 (God,
that's a big gun!) and I love the fact that I can
"tweak" every adjustment on the gun (damn the factory
specs!). As Gramma used to say... "if it aint broke,
don't fix it".
I love shooting the 744, especially with light loads
like 44 Special, because of the extremely light
recoil. I just wish there was some way to carry the
thing without gearing up for a boat anchore!

Tonight I took my 744 completely apart for a detailed cleaning. I
noticed that the "aligning ball screw" (#21 in my exploded diagram)
was standing a little "proud" of the frame, so I adjusted it in until
it was flush with the frame. Out of curiosity, I carefully turned it
as far in as it would go, and it seemed to "bottom out" compressing
the spring all the way against the ball. After doing that, the
cylinder wouldn't close because the aligning ball wouldn't "give", so
I backed it out and left it very slightly below flush in the frame.

I'm wondering why this screw was left "loose" in the frame from the
factory? I would have expected it to be staked in place or have some
loctite on the threads. I may re-strip and use some blue loctite on
it to keep it in place, but before I do, I was wondering what
the "correct" depth the screw should be adjusted to? Of course,
useful information like this is nowhere to be found in my 744
instruction manual!

Thanks for any insights you can provide.

Also - is the ejector rod RH thread or LH thread?

Thanks,
Lou

A small frame Dan Wesson can be used as scuba diving weight when
stuffed in a wet suit; the medium frame guns will serve one well as a
bludgining weapon against water buffalo; I have heard that they are
using a large frame Dan Wesson (frame only, no barrel) as an anchor on

Interesting...has nothing to do with the frame itself.

Here is something I pulled from a Google search a
while back. I wouldn't take it as gospel.....:

The Dan Wesson .357 Magnum CTG (stands for
"cartridge") is a Small Frame Series revolver (has a
removable sideplate on the left side of the frame
beneath and behind the cylinder cavity).

If your revolver has an interchangeable barrel (barrel
nut with 2 spanner slots visible from the muzzle end
of the barrel), an interchangeable front sight blade
(set screw hole visible in the muzzle end of the
shroud rib), and a long, curved hammer spur it is a
model 15-2 if blued, 715-2 if stainless.

If it has a short, straight hammer spur it is a model
15 if blued, 715 if stainless.

If it has a fixed front sight blade (no set screw hole
visible in the muzzle end of the shroud rib) and an
internal barrel nut, it is a model 14 if blued, 714 if
stainless.

If it has a fixed front sight blade (no set screw hole
visible in the muzzle end of the shroud rib), an "L"
shaped barrel shroud and an external or internal
barrel nut it is a model 11.

If it has an interchangeable front sight blade (set
screw hole visible in the muzzle end of the shroud
rib) an "L" shaped barrel shroud and an external or
internal barrel nut it is a model 12.

If it has a fixed front sight blade (no set screw hole
visible in the muzzle end of the shroud rib) and an
internal barrel nut and will only fire .38 Special it
is a model 8 if blued, 708 if stainless.

If it has an interchangeable front sight blade (set
screw hole visible in the muzzle end of the shroud
rib) and an internal barrel nut and will only fire .38
Special it is a model 9 if blued, 709 if stainless.

If it has a fixed barrel (no barrel nut visible on the
muzzle end of the barrel) it is a model FB15 if blued,
FB715 if stainless.

Welcome to the forum. Hope this information helps some.

In 1994, the Dan Wesson revolver became available in a conventional
fixed barrel version, at slightly less cost. These fixed barrel guns
were an attempt to compete with the big boys (S&W, Ruger, Tarus) for
the vanilla gun buyer. These fixed barrel guns will not be
reintroduced by the NYI company.

Dates of Manufacture by address of the factory.
1971 - 1992 Monson, MA
1992 - 1995 Palmer, MA
1996 - 2005 Norwich, NY Owner Bob Serva
2005 - Current Norwich, NY Now owned by CZ USA

Hi All,

I've owned a Dan Wesson 357 CTG (Palmer MA manufacture) in blue steel
for a couple of years now, (serial #B0029XX) - paid about $200 for it.
It's now as regularly used when going to the range as my 5" 1911 45
(didn't think any other firearm I owned would claim that honor).

I got this from my local gun shop, it came with no box or papers. The
barrel appears to be fixed, non-vented or ribbed topside, no
compensators, and has no locking nut at the end of the shroud (it's a
2" barrel), but it otherwise looks like the shroud on the
interchangeable models. It has an adjustable rear site - and a fixed
front site with red blade insert. Trigger is silver in color. Typical
DW wooden 1 piece grip w/ square tang hole for the screw. I'm curious
if anyone can identify the exact model from this description.

I've read a bit on the forum, and I see the Palmer manufactured guns
have had a bit of a reputation regarding quality issues. I have to say
this example is a well made and accurate revolver - particularly when
loaded with 38 special rounds (at least when I shoot it) ;-).

Any/All insights would be appreciated.

Thanks

MDH is wanting another barrel for his DW before he goes for his CCW
license. His is looking for a 4" blued barrel assembly for his 357 mag.
Does anyone have one for sale or know where to look? What is a

It does not bother me, as long as it is related to the topic. I have a couple
of lists that are self-help discussion groups, and for some reason they get a
lot of over-the-top posts inviting members to go leer at somebody's naughty
underthings. That is distracting and annoying, so I finally had to start
pre-screening each new member before they join. But I'm only one member, and I
seem to be odd man out.

Sorry it was not me it will be a fine addition to someones collection.
I added it all up and it was around $2500.00 to purchase it all and a
steal at $2000.00, I just could not pull the trigger.
