I also bought a used Model 15 (4"bbl) five or six years ago. It,
too shot very well. After a fairly short time I noticed a SLIGHT 'crack' in
the left side- plate.
First, I had to "track D.Wesson down(!)" as they weren't yet really
up and running as the "new" Dan Wesson.
Once I found them, I called and described the problem. They said
they were 'pretty sure' they had the part, and to send it in. I don't
remember now it they gave me an 'estimate' or not-- I wanted the gun fixed!
(It has one of the sweetest triggers I've ever used).
Long story short-- I got the gun back in a couple of weeks with a
new side plate, re-blued, and with a barrel-bushing wrench and cylinder-gap
tool. It's been magnificent ever since-- perhaps the most accurate hand gun
I own (out of... eight or nine, including a Beretta FS92 with the Competition
Conversion kit).
I honestly do not remember the cost... but I remember being damned
impressed by all I got for my money!
Your problem might be 'gunsmith-able'-- mine needed a part.
But, at least judging by the Dan Wesson of about five years ago, I'd
say "send it in."
Keep your powder dry!
