4. Second round (Thursday 18th January)
---------------
+ DANIELA HANTUCHOVÁ [15,EF] d. Emilie Loit, 4-6 6-3 6-4
A tougher match this time, but every win is a bonus because we didn't
even know if Daniela was going to play here, so I'm not putting any
pressure on her to win.
Beefy: "I just watched Daniela's match and she looked good for most
of it. She did seem to struggle with her positioning of the ball,
mainly with the line and length, either puting it wide of the perfect
line or too long on length, but she did pull off some amazing shots.
Her serve was pretty good today, not that much pace, but she was able
to get the line right there, either right on the 'T' or getting it
right on the doubles line and landing it short, making it hard to
return. She was looking good returning serve for most of the times,
but was not able to deal with the spin that well at first, but she
did pick things up later. Hopefully she'll be playing a bit better in
two days time. Good to see she didn't let her emotions take control
of her"

HANT @ @* *__@* 6
LOIT _@__* *@__ 4
Loit serving 0-0: broken to 15.
Daniela serving 1-0: broken after 7 deuces - after saving 3 break-
points (15/40 + ad) and squandering 5 game-points.
Loit serving 1-1: broken to 30.
Daniela serving 2-1: held to 30.
Loit serving 1-3: recovered from 0/40, then saved 4 more break-
points, and held after 7 deuces.

Loit serving 2-4: held after 3 deuces.
Daniela serving 4-3: saved 30/40, but broken after 1 deuce.
Loit serving 4-4: had 40/30, but broken after 1 deuce.
I saw the last game on a Youtube video which has now been deleted
(it seems that Tennis Australia are taking an aggressive stance
against copyright-infringement).
Daniela serving 5-4:
{0/0} Loit forehand winner.
{0/15} Service-winner.
{15/15} A good wide serve forced a short return, but Daniela sprayed
a forehand wide.
{15/30} Loit forehand just long. "C'mon," said Daniela.
{30/30} Loit netted a sliced backhand.
{40/30: MP #1} Daniela played a great spreading rally, ending with an
off-forehand that forced Loit to earth a backhand lob.
Daniela won 4-6 6-3 6-4, and there was a big smile on her face.
Third-round preview
-------------------
Daniela plays Ashley Harkleroad, who leads their head-to-head 2-1.
Daniela won 7-5 6-1 en route to the ITF Bronx 2000 title, but Ashley
caught Daniela twice during Daniela's 'lean' claycourt-season of
2003: at Charleston, Ashley won 6-2 6-1, and in the second round of
the French Open, Ashley outlasted Daniela in a 7-6 4-6 9-7 marathon.
Ashley has reached the third round with two very impressive
scorelines:
1r + Yuan,Meng, 6-3 6-0
2r + ANNA-LENA GRÖNEFELD [17], 6-2 6-2
It's nice to see Ashley doing well, because she is as cute as a
button! Apparently she's given up being a grinder, and is now trying
to use her "athleticism" to her advantage, whatever that means (a
dynamic net-rushing game perhaps?).
