Daniela should start being afraid as the Slovak teen trio did very
well in both Strasbourg and Istanbul. Although the trio got only one
victory, the three young players achieved altogether four tie-breaks.
Although they lost three out of the four tie-break, still it's great
achievement. Playing tie-break also means that there is actually NO
DIFFERENCE in tennis game between the two players in that particular
set and all three young Slovak girls played against higher ranked and
older players.
Jarmila Gajdosova, 19-year old, ranked 98, had the most difficult task
- she played 5th seeded Marion Bartoli, 22-year old, ranked 28 - Jarka
lost in two sets 0:6, 6:7 (1:7). Dissapointed first set, however, the
second set tie-break is very promising...
Magdalena Rybarikova, 17-year old, ranked 232, lost to Mashona
Washington, 30-year old, ranked 84 barely 6:7 (9:11), 7:6 (7:5), 6:3.
Very, very close to a stunnig victory against player 13-years older
and 148 places higher in ranking...Magda seems to have a great serve
and her results in Prague (she won qualification and three matches in
the main draw !!!) and here, despite the defeat, are very promising.
Dominika Cibulkova, 17-year old, ranked 339, BEAT Ashley Harkleroad,
21-year old and ranked 80. 4 years difference in age and unbelievable
259 places in ranking. The result was: 6:7 (4:7), 6:3, 6:0. Great
victory. Dominika leveled Daniela's best results on clay this season
(so far). Her next opponent is 25-year Italian, Mara Santangelo,
ranked 37.
