I am not mad Dani (I hope). The reasons why Daniela should beat Serena
are these:
(1) Serena has not played before AUS OPEN due to problems with her
knee - obviously she is not 100% fit and she is more vulnerable on the
court (running) - she should not run down all the unbelievable balls
as before - better chance to score clean winners and more points for
her opponent
(2) Serena is not in a good form - she bearly won her 1st round match
against Chinese Na Li - she made 45 unforced errors and 21 winners and
had 6/11 break conversions, while her opponent had 14 break points and
converted 3...
(3) Serena is obviously overweight, she is in worse shape in years
(maybe since she started playing on WTA tour)
What else Daniela could wish for? Broken leg? I guess this is the test
for Daniela where is her game now - although there are some "against" :
(1) Serena improved her game considerably in the 2nd round when she
reduced unforced errors to 22 (more then twice) and hit 30 winners, so
she had an active ratio of winners/errors - it does not mean that from
now on she will play a higher level of tennis, it might be just a
fluke - on the other hand Daniela did not improve her statistics - she
just reduced her winners and errors to half - from 32/42 (1st match)
to 16/21 (2nd match)
(2) Serena never lost to Daniela, that's a big advantage - although
Daniela fights, it looked many times that she did not believe that she
can beat her and it was only question of time when Daniela beat
herself - Serena did not need to play absolute top of her game to beat
Daniela (so far) - in other words the difference was too obvious
Anyway, Serena these day is not Serena in 2002-3, when she used to
beat Daniela easily. Daniela improved mentally (winning all 3-set
matches this year) and physically (muscles) - hopefully she will take
advantage of these improvements and will not "forget" her inner
strength the minute she enters the court. Serena mentally is not as
strong as she used to be...and physically - we shall see how serious
will be her knee problems and several pounds in excess.
In any case it should be a great match with a good chance for Daniela
to beat Williams for the first time in her career. I just hope that
Daniela's problems with tooth will not bother her too much and she
will not lose in straight sets. GO DANI GO !!!

understimated, she is still very dangerous and as she starts moving
foward through the open the more confident she will be. As for Dani if
she takes one point at the time hopefully we will get to see her
against Serena in the 3rd round.

think Figo quit the Portuguese football team and that does not make
him any less Portuguese
