OK, but what would be Maradona without Argentina? By playing for
Argentina and becoming world champion he became national
hero...Daniela is now Slovak No.1 and why country's No.1, its best
player should not represent the country? Because she won the
competition once? Then maybe because she has already won the Tier I
tournament, why to participate in Tier I tournaments any more? Daniela
is not so good that she would win all Fed Cup's matches she would play
(she is very, very far from it), so the argument that she would have
nothing to gain from playing Fed Cup is weak. What would happen to her
career or tennis game if she would play few matches a year for a team
instead only for herself? She could take it as practice for WTA
tournaments, if nothing else. There are players like John McEnroe who
played for the USA during his entire career and nobody called him
stupid - he was proud to play for his own country. Of course, not
everybody must be the same and to have the same attitude, but I hope
that Daniela will not be dissapointed when she will not get into
Slovak team at Olympic games.
As to the AUS OPEN, we shall see how far she can get. If she will meet
Serena in 3rd, it might be a turning point of her career - because
Serena is playing her worse tennis, there is a big chance to finally
beat somebody called Williams. Because an absolutely unknown Bulgarian
player managed to beat Venus what Daniela never did. If both players
"qualify" for this match, than the chances are open. I think that if
Daniela will not beat Serena now, she never will...
