First round (Monday)
-----------

+ Daniela Hantuchová d. Sania Mirza, 6-4 2-6 6-2

A mouthwatering match of flairsome groundstrokes.

The Sania-fans (I am a demi-fan) think that their girl was robbed by
a couple of overrules: one that denied her a *5-2 lead in the first
set, and one that gave Daniela a 5-2* lead in the third set.

Sania: "It will take me a few months for sure in match-pressure
situations before I expect to be confident with what I am trying to
execute. But for a start - pretty good. I think I have recovered
sufficiently from the back-problem as I had no problems with it."

------------
Second round (Tuesday)
------------

+ Daniela Hantuchová d. PATTY SCHNYDER [3], 3-6 6-3 6-4

Daniela has now played Schnyder 14 times (including Fed Cup), with
Schnyder leading their head-to-head 8-6, but Daniela has won 3 of
their 4 meetings in 2005/2006, which is ironic as 2005 has been the
only year which Schnyder has finished in the top ten (Schnyder is
currently ranked #8, Daniela #17).

I distilled the following information from the scores-thread:
http://www.wtaworld.com/showthread.php?t=211995&page=26

surprise!).

far.

Daniela serving to stay in the set at 2-5: Held to love.
Schnyder serving for the set at 5-3: 0/30 -> 30/30, 30/40 (BP),
40/40, ad Schnyder (SP), Schnyder won the first set 6-3 at 14:31

Quarter-finals (Wednesday)
--------------

- Daniela Hantuchová lt. NICOLE VAIDIŠOVÁ [8],
6-3 3-1 retired (gastrointestinal illness)

A sad way for this mouthwatering match (and a match between two good
friends, judging by what I saw on the practice-courts at Birmingham
2005) to end.

Daniela has now retired or given her opponent a walkover four times
in her career, and every time has been due to illness as opposed to
injury. I don't know whether to blame the 40°C heat in Sydney, as
Daniela is one of the fittest players on tour, and usually gets an
advantage from hot conditions.

Nicole is another player of whom I'm a demi-fan, and it's a distinct
possibility that she will be the next player I induct into my
eternal fanship. She has amazing firepower on her serve and
forehand, although she's still a rough diamond in terms of touch and
mobility (as of the last time I saw her play, at Wimbledon 2005).

Scores-thread:
http://www.wtaworld.com/showthread.php?t=212225&page=21

First Set
---------
HANTUCH _____*@*_ 3
VAIDIŠO *@*@*___* 6

The match started at 15:46.
Nicole serving 0-0: 30/30, 30/40 (BP), 40/40, ad Nicole, held.
Daniela serving 0-1: 30/30, 30/40 (BP), broken.

And therein lies the difference: Daniela wastes break-points, Nicole
converted in the same situation. Perhaps that's why Nicole has
already won four WTA singles-titles in her career, Daniela only one
(but Indian Wells is a super Tier I; Nicole hasn't won anything
above Tier III yet).

Nicole serving 2-0: 0/40 (3 BPs) -> 40/40, held.
Daniela serving 0-3: 15/30, broken.
Nicole serving 4-0: Double fault. 0/15, 0/30, 15/40 (2 BPs) ->
40/40, ad Nicole, held.

Daniela has converted 0 of 6 break-points so far, Nicole 2 of 3.

Daniela serving to stay in the set at 0-5: 0/15, 15/30, 15/40 (2
SPs) -> 40/40, ad Daniela, held.
Nicole serving for the set at 5-1: Double fault. 0/15... broken!
Daniela serving to stay in the set at 2-5: Held to 15.
Nicole serving for the set at 5-3: 15/0, 30/15. Double fault. 40/40,
ad Nicole (SP #3), Deuce #2, ad Nicole (SP #4), Nicole won the first
set 6-3 at 16:26 (40m).

Second Set
----------
HANTUCH *___ 1 retired
VAIDIŠO _*@* 3

Daniela serving 0-0: 0/15, 30/15, 30/30, 40/30, held.

16:45.
