The start of Daniela this year was not as great as you
described...At Hopman Cup Daniela lost to Molik 3:6, 3:6 in 64
minutes...and then she beat Krajicek, Shaughnessy and Dulko.
At AUS OPEN, Daniela lost to Dementieva, who does not know how to
serve, although Daniela could take a lesson from Elena's power and
speed, extremely good physical condition. Nevertheless, Daniela
should beat Dementieva, especially at Grand Slam where Daniela plays
100% better than in other tournaments.
Daniela DID improve when comparing last season - she finished close
to No.50 or something like this. 23 in the world is good, but far
from very good and very far from excellent. Daniela was No.5 in the
world and looking at her progress during last years and the number
of new players every year, it really seems that it will be extremely
difficult for her to return to at least No.5 in the world - she
would have to beat players ranked better than her like SCHNYDER,
MYSKINA, MOLIK, PIERCE, DECHY, ZVONAREVA, LIKHOVTSEVA, BOVINA,
JANKOVIC, IVANOVIC, FARINA ELIA, GOLOVIN, etc - I guess Daniela
could win against them, but I doubt that she would beat them always
when they meet. And she shlould not lose to lower ranked players
whta happen quite often. I am not saying she does not have chance to
get into TOP 10 or even TOP5, but she would have to make a
remarkable progress in many things like serve, speed, movement,
power, physical condition, mental strength - too many things, it
looks like it would have to be a completely different player than
Daniela...I agree she needs a new coach - Nigel Sears is trying to
get maximum of her, but he is not adding anything to her. But it's
difficult to find a right coach, it might take a while and in the
meantime, Daniela cal miss the train completely...
We shall see whether Daniela can get into TOP 20 in this year.
