I saw the finals as unbelievably Slovak television broadcasted the
entire match live at 3am ! Daniela has played, especially in the 1st
set, very very poorly and she deserved to lose 1:6. But Gisela also
looked pretty nervous, so actually she allowed Daniela to come back
in the match and to win the next two sets 6:4, 6:4. Daniela played
poorly, too many and too easy mistakes - she had good and very good
shots, but they were rare and looked like accidental. Most of the
time, Daniela played badly but she still was able to win the match -
that's one positive outcome of this match. Otherwise, playing like
this Daniela cannot compete seriously against players within TOP 50
this year...She must improve her game if she wants to win a round in
Australian Open. I guess Daniela had to play better in her previous
winning matches, she was probably too nervous in the finals. Her
results in Hopman Cup - singles - was pretty good - 3 victories, 1
defeat. Not bad for the start of the season.
Dominik Hrbaty played a sensational tennis, he made worthy to watch
the finals at 3am, otherwise my eyes would be very tired and sick
from what they saw in Daniela-Gisela match...I think that Coria had
no chance to beat him this time and I would not underestimate
Dominik at all - he has been one of few players who was able to beat
Roger Federer last season.
It will be interesting to see next year whether Daniela and Dominik
will defend their title, especially if Roger and Martina (Hingis)
would enter as well.
It looks like Daniela is going to play with Martina (Navratilova) in
Sydney - FINALLY !!! I hope that they will play together well and
long enough - so Daniela can teach a lot from her (not only playing
on the net, but also strategies, tactics, shot selection, physical
and mental preparation) - at least as much as Svetlana Kuznetsova
did!!!
