You've got to bear in mind that for a casual tennis fan the only
recognisable names are Capriati and Sharapova, possibly Myskina.
This article makes a naive assumption that people think there will
only be quality tennis if you've got the Williams sisters, the
Belgians or Davenport. But there is a depth of quality in the women's
game; I'd certainly be happy to watch most of the above play (and
Daniela of course).
Possibly the WTA Tour need to be marketing the events better.
Articles like this one don't help.
However, just the presence of Sharapova I would have thought would be
enough - she's a huge star right now thanks to all the promo work she
did in North America after Wimbledon.
