2. Second-round eyewitness report: Hantuchová v Govortsova
(Tuesday 12th June)
----------------------------------------------------------
+ DANIELA HANTUCHOVÁ [3,EF] d. Olga Govortsova, 6-2 6-4
Olga Govortsova is tall, blonde and mildly attractive, with a grunt
like Karolina Šprem's. IMO, she plays ordinary WTA tennis. In her
first-round match against Eva Birnerová, she saved five match-points,
including *4-5 (0/40) in the third set!
Daniela made a dreadful start, spraying unforced errors left, right
and centre as she lost 9 of the first 10 points. However, she soon
got into her stride, and from 0-2* down she reeled off six games in a
row (saving two break-points at *1-2) to take the first set 6-2 with
a brilliant display of groundstrokes of flairsome power, and an
amazing backhand drop-volley winner at 4-2*!
The second set was decided by a single break of serve in the third
game, but although Daniela had to save a break-back point at *3-2,
the outcome never seemed in doubt as she romped to a 6-2 6-4 victory.
