THE CHAMPIONSHIPS (Wimbledon, England; grass; Grand Slam)
================= http://www.wimbledon.org/
Third round
-----------
+ DANIELA HANTUCHOVÁ [15] d. KATARINA SREBOTNIK [21], 6-4 7-6 (7/2)
The match started at 15:10 BST on Court 18, but the BBC didn't
televise it, even though they had ten minutes before BBC2 ended its
live transmission and BBCi had to pick up Federer v Mahut - all they
could show was men, men, men and men! :-|| So I had to make do with
live scores at www.wimbledon.org.
First Set:
HANTUCHOV _*@* * * * 6
SREBOTNIK *___* * *_ 4
Srebotnik serving 0-0: 15/0, 30/15, 40/15, 40/30, held.
Daniela serving 0-1: 15/15, 15/40 (2 BPs) -> 40/40, ad Daniela, held.
Srebotnik serving 1-1: 15/15... broken.
It's always hard to serve after squandering break-points, even if
you're an opponent of Daniela rather than Daniela herself! ;-)
Daniela serving 2-1: 30/0... held.
Srebotnik serving 1-3: 30/0 -> 30/30, 40/30, 40/40, ad Srebotnik,
Deuce #2, ad Daniela (BP), Deuce #3, ad Srebotnik, Deuce #4,
ad Daniela (BP #2), Deuce #5, ad Daniela (BP #3), Deuce #6,
ad Srebotnik, held.
Katarina took a medical time-out.
Daniela serving 3-2: held to love.
A convincing hold for Daniela after squandering three break-points
in the previous game, followed by the distraction of the MTO.
Srebotnik serving 2-4: 40/0, 40/30, held.
Daniela serving 4-3: held to love.
Srebotnik serving to stay in the first set at 3-5: 15/0, 30/15,
40/15, held.
Daniela serving for the first set at 5-4: 40/0 (3 SPs), Daniela won
the first set 6-4 at 15:53.
Second Set:
HANTUCHOV @__* * * * * 7(7)
SREBOTNIK _@* * * * *_ 6(2)
Srebotnik serving 0-0: 15/0, 15/40 (2 BPs) -> 40/40,
ad Daniela (BP #3), broken.
Daniela serving 1-0: 15/0, 15/40 (2 BPs), broken.
Daniela never makes it simple, does she? But I've got a good feeling
about this match: I just get the impression that Daniela is stronger
mentally than Katarina, based not only on the sequence of scores
I've seen here, but on what Sam Smith said about Katarina at
Wimbledon 2005: "I think there's an insecurity in her game, I don't
think she believes in herself as much as she should."
Srebotnik 1-1: 15/15, 30/30, 40/40, ad Srebotnik, Deuce #2, ad
Daniela (BP), Deuce #3, ad Srebotnik, held.
Daniela serving 1-2: 15/15, 30/15, 40/30, held.
Srebotnik serving 2-2: 30/0, 30/15... held.
Federer v Mahut just finished, but BBCi are now televising the empty
court instead of dropping in on this match! Three channels at the
moment, and not a women's match in sight. :-|| It didn't use to be
this way with Wimbledon Interactive.
They're now showing Haas and Berdych warming up instead of the end
of this match. What's the point of equal prize-money without equal
coverage?
Daniela serving 2-3: 30/0 -> 30/30, 40/30, held.
Srebotnik serving 3-3: 15/15, 40/30, 40/40... held.
Daniela serving 3-4: 0/15, 15/15, 30/15, 30/30, 40/30, held.
Srebotnik serving 4-4: 0/30 -> 30/30, 40/30, held.
And suddenly, by hanging in there, Katarina has a big chance to take
this match to a third set. This is where the advantage of serving
first comes into its own.
Daniela serving to stay in the second set at 4-5: 15/0, 30/15,
30/40 (SP), 40/40, ad Daniela, held.
Srebotnik serving 5-5: 15/0, 15/30, 30/30, 40/30, held.
Daniela serving to stay in the second set at 5-6: held to love.
6-6 tiebreak: Daniela *2/0, 2/1*, *5/1, 5/2*, 6/2* (4 MPs),
Daniela won 6-4 7-6 (7/2) at 16:51.

Fourth-round draw
-----------------
* ANA IVANOVIC [19] v AMÉLIE MAURESMO [1] (ajde Ana!)
* ANASTASIA MYSKINA [9] v JELENA JANKOVIC [26] (davai Anastasia!)
* MARIA SHARAPOVA [4] v FLAVIA PENNETTA [16] (both nice; my loyalty
is to MARIA!)
* ELENA DEMENTIEVA [7] v Shenay Perry (davai Elena!)
* Séverine Brémond [Q] v SUGIYAMA,AI [18] (allez Séverine!)
* DANIELA HANTUCHOVÁ [15] v JUSTINE HENIN-HARDENNE [3] (PODME
DANIELA!!)
* NICOLE VAIDIOVÁ [10] v LI,NA [27] (PODME NICOLE!!)
* Agnieszka Radwanska [WC] v KIM CLIJSTERS [2] (dawaj Agnieszka!)
Daniela's really up against it now: against the French Open and
Eastbourne champion who is many experts' pick for the title. Two of
Daniela's biggest wins have been against Henin: 3r Indian Wells 2002
and 4r US Open 2002 - but that was before Henin became the
dominating force that she is today.
I just hope Daniela can give Henin a tight match, unlike Henin's
previous opponents: Yuan,Meng 6-0 6-1; Ekaterina Bychkova 6-1 6-2;
Anna Chakvetadze 6-2 6-3. So will Daniela lose 6-3 6-4? ;-)
Daniela: "Justine's a great champion. I have a lot of respect for
the way she plays. So it's going to be an exciting match for me, and
I can't wait to be out there again."
My wishes for Daniela:
4r + JUSTINE HENIN-HARDENNE [3]
qf + Séverine Brémond [Q]
sf + NICOLE VAIDIOVÁ [10]
_f + MARIA SHARAPOVA [4]
