- DANIELA HANTUCHOVÁ/AI SUGIYAMA [7] lt.
CARA BLACK/LIEZEL HUBER [2], 6-3 6-2
I saw this match on BBCi. Sadly, Daniela didn't play anywhere near
as well as when I watched them win the doubles title at Birmingham -
where were those brilliant lobs and gorgeous stop-volleys?
Daniela seemed reluctant to get into the net as much as the other
three, and Black/Huber volleyed very well. Cara played much better
than when I watched them in the Birmingham doubles semi-finals, and
she looked so cute, even if she is getting a little scrawny in her
old age! ;-)
Black/Huber seemed to gel together much better than
Daniela/Sugiyama. One pair was moving together as a team, the other
pair lacked that mutual understanding.
So, now that Daniela is all out of Wimbledon, three important
questions remain. Can marvellous Maria Sharapova retain the Women's
Singles crown that she won so sensationally last year? Can the
delightful Vera Zvonarëva win the Women's Doubles title with Elena
Likhovtseva? And can beautiful Dominika Cibulková restore some
Slovak pride by winning the Girls' Singles?
