Daniela's sector:
81. PATTY SCHNYDER [15] v qualifier
83. Iveta Benešová v Bethanie Mattek [WC]
85. Daniela Hantuchová v Sandrine Testud
87. Stephanie Cohen-Aloro v ALICIA MOLIK [17]
Sandrine Testud is making a comeback this year after retiring
pregnant after Wimbledon 2002. She has a win-loss record of 3-10 in
2004 so far, and the wins were in February and March. Her latest
match was a 6-2 6-0 loss to Silvia Farina Elia at the Olympics,
where her place should rightfully have gone to Tatiana Golovin but
for Testud's injury-protected ranking. Testud is surely too old, too
slow and too fat to give Daniela any problems now. Something would
have to go very wrong for Daniela to drop more than four games a
set. I give Daniela a 97% chance of winning this match.
But after that, Daniela will have to face her demons head-on: Alicia
Molik, who beat her in the second round of the Australian Open, and
Patty Schnyder, whom Daniela narrowly failed to upset at the
Olympics. Daniela has a chance, but it's very tough.
Daniela's probable fourth-round opponent would be Serena Williams,
though we can dream of a mouthwatering match with the 30th seed,
Tatiana Golovin! :-)
