This is why I love Jerry Jones.....QB goes down...starting CB gets suspended....he doesn't panic and go sign just anybody to cover those spots who's talent level isn't any better than what we already have...he looked at what was available and got the player available who could best help this team...Roy Williams. Yes, we will still hurt at CB. But the addition of Williams 1) makes Brad Johnson a more effective QB. It provides one more target for a QB who won't be a mobility threat. I won't stop blitzing, but it will keep teams from just putting 8 men in the box to completely take away the run, 2) helps T.O. become a more effective receiver. The addition of Williams gives the Cowboys 2 legit #1 receivers. If teams contiue to double T.O., Roy will be deadly. He should draw some occasional double teams and give TO some one on one opportunities.

Hopefully, this will be enough of a band-aid to keep the record in playoff contention until Romo, T-New, and possibly Pacman gets back. But something tells me Pac's goin' bye-bye.

Well, after resisting for years, I finally decided to take the plunge and start
a blog. Because the are so many blogs about the Cowboys already, and because I
know more about Cowboy books than I do about Cowboy players, my blog focuses on
books and media:

All he was doing was pointing out the obvious.

Aikman has become a very respected announcer
because he analyzes things without consideration
for his former team of his former position as
a QB.

The cowboys get an advantage the week after
the Thanksgiving game too.

Aikman would last on TV for about a month
announcing games the way most of you
would want him to do it.

Plus he is not a dope addict or former
gang banger like so many of the players
in the league now.

I am really losing interest in the NFL
and I've already stopped watching the NBA.

This question was posed in another Yahoo! group which I run, called
the MLB New York Mets where as a member of that group posed a very
interesting question. Interesting enough that I wanted to post the
same question here, within this football Yahoo! Groups for the
members to ponder on your favorite NFL team.

I have been and still am a die hard Dallas Cowboy fan as yes, ex-New
Yorkers can root for the Cowboy's as well. When the Cowboy's are not
in contention, I happen tor root for the New York Giants and New York
Jets. What a site for New York if both New York teams played each
other in the Super Bowl. I have completed this task within the MLB
New York Mets Yahoo! group for the baseball New York Mets as I will
eventually be dong the same for each NFL football team listed above
by position.

question over to football by position.) If you had to choose the top
5 players per position (10 for pitchers since there are both starters
and relievers) from Mets history, who would you choose?

I just heard with disbelief that the Arizona Cardinals are trying to
force Dallas Cowboys fans who buy tickets to the October 12th game to
also buy tickets for the August 7th exhibition game between the
Cardinals New Orleans.

Apparently the team wants to become conspicuously inhospitable to
opposing teams.

Besides probably being illegal, this type of shenanigan displays poor
administrative 'sportsmanship' on behalf of Arizona.

Buy tickets to a Cardinals' game? This Cowboys fan says, "Why bother?!"

I just wanted to say thank you to the group for allowing me to
join. My name is Mike and I am sure, some if not most of you are
going to laugh but I am a transplanted New Yorker who is presently
living in South Florida. I might be transplanted but I still follow
my teams as I am an avid New York Met fan (follow the Marlins when
the Mets are not in the pennant race but that has not happened
lately), and I am a avid New York Islander fan as well (have been
getting accustomed to the Florida Panthers as well).

Go ahead as I am sure that you are going to say, and you are either
a New York Giant fan or a New York Jet fan to which my response back
is that I will follow them but only when my favorite football team
is not in the race anymore as the DALLAS COWBOY'S have been and will
always be my favorite football team. I might be from New York but I
have my Uncle to thank for hooking me on the Cowboy's at an early
age. As a matter of fact, I have plaques, here in my office of
America's team, Emmitt Smith, and Troy Aikman as well as the club's
logo, hanging from my rear view mirror in my car. Guess that will
show you who I root for as it is the Cowboy's all the way ...

With that all said, you can also see that I am an avid sports fan.
I have noticed that other topics of interest have a directory set up
for those groups to link to as well as to share their interests with
others of similar intersts. The one area which I did not see one
established tho, was within the area of sports to which I have put
an end to that with the establishment of the "Ultimate Sports
Directory" as I want to share it with you as well. To the
Owners/Moderators of this group, I want to first say that I have all
ready linked your group to the directory, under the Dallas Cowboys
Yahoo! Group. I hope all the members of this group, no matter if
you are a owner, moderator, or a member, come to check out
the "Ultimate Sports Directory" at
http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/theUSD/ as well as you won't be
disappointed. I am sure that most in this group are not only fans
of the Dallas Cowboys but have other sports which you enjoy watching
and in the "Ultimate Sports Directory," you get just that.

I hope I did not step on any ones toes here in introducing myself as
I hope to be a long member within the group, making friends with
everyone of it's members!

Dropped two key passes then let up on what would have been the game
winner.

His giving up on that go route and then realizing the ball was coming
his way and trying to catch up to it in the end zone only to have it
just out of his reach with 10 seconds left....that was inexcusable.

This team needs to learn to play pissed off ALL the time. It lacks
motivation. It gets tired in December and fades. Every single
year.

We need to be like the Pats and run over there, stick the knife deep
in the other team early, twist it around, and then laugh at them.
They have that killer instinct this team still lacks.

After watching that game yesterday it's obvious changes need to be
made on both sides of the ball.

Offense:

1. Julius Jones needs to go. We need a bigger stronger back that
can get yards after the first contact, which JJ demonstrated many,
many times this year he cannot do. Barber should be the starter next
year and like LT gets spelled by Michael Turner in San Diego, we need
someone to carry the ball and spell Barber for 30% or so of the
carries.

2. New coaching for the Offensive Line. Despite what Madden says,
this is NOT one of the best Offensive lines in the NFL. The best line
should be able to pass block AND run block. 8 or 9 times a game our
backs are getting hit in the backfield right after taking the
handoff. The run-blocking on this team has been HORRIBLE. If it was
a competent run blocking line Barber would have rushed for 1,500
yards this year easily. As it was he still almost topped 1,000, and
that when getting just over half the carries. Sparano is leaving and
I say good riddance. We need a O-Line coach that doesn't just focus
on pass blocking and can't teach these guys to run block better.

3. A better WR to replace Crayton, and Glenn if he retires. TO
looked good this year and keeps himself in such good shape people
keep expecting him to decline and he just keeps going. Hurd and
Austin showed more development during the season but it's not clear
yet if they are long-term answers. Dallas needs to bring in some
good WR's this year, possible drafting one and signing one in FA.

Defense:

1. The front seven got all the 1st Round Draft picks the last couple
of years - Ware, Spears, Spencer, Carpenter. The last two 1st round
picks we spent on the secondary were Roy Williams and Terrance
Newman. Over 5 seasons ago. Anybody who watched that game against
the Giants is now aware..........I'd say VERY WELL AWARE...of just
how much help that secondary desperately needs. THIS is going to be
the top priority in the draft and FA. Not a RB or a WR. Dallas did
much, much better at stopping the deep ball with the addition of
Hamlin back there helping the CB's over the top. But against the
short ball our nickel back - Jacques Reeves, was toasted to buttery
goodness all season long. Henry and Newman are struggling with
injuries most of the year and it's become obvious that Dallas'
secondary unit needs more real talent on it. This is why drafting
one, possibly two CB/SS hybrids early is going to be such a
priority. Dallas was anemic 17th in the league versus the pass last
year and over 3/4 of that yardage given up was passes under 15
yards. THIS is what the team MUST improve next season or face
another early playoff exit.

2. The ILB'ers are too slow to drop back and help out in pass
coverage. Roy Williams takes most of the heat for those underneath
short passes but how many people notice when he comes up to make the
tackle there is no LB'er anywhere near the area? Akin and Bradie are
stout against the run but they cannot cover to save their lives. Roy
often comes up to 'help out' and the LB'er just lets the TE or RB go
and leaves Roy hanging. We need to see this Training Camp if Kevin
Burnett and Bobby Carpenter or anyone else can do better dropping
back in the middle in coverage. Our LB'er had 0 interceptions this
year.

3. Special Teams coach Bruce Read needs to be fired. This unit
tackled and covered lousy all year long, consistently letting other
teams return kicks to the 30 yard line or beyond. Part of it is NFL
culture, where it's a habit to stick 'developmental players' on your
ST. In other words, slow guys that aren't good enough to start yet.
What sense does it make to put 3rd and 4th string TE's and WR's and
RB's on your kick coverage unit and then not teach them to tackle
adequately? If you have to play starters and 2nd string defenders,
so be it. I'm tired of watching a 3rd string WR burn down the field,
get to the KR at the 15 and blow the tackle as the guy gets to the 30
yard line. Put your starting CB's in there if you have too. It's a
game of field position and this insanity must stop.

This is the second straight early playoff exit in a row for this
Cowboys team. The coaches are different but many of the players are
the same as last year under Tuna, and were in that Seattle game.
They had better learn to get nasty out there early and often and then
STAY nasty all year long, because they just learned for the second
traumatic time in a row what happens if you get out played, out
hustled, out-intensified in the playoffs.
