Cypresswoodies? ??? We've got to find a better nick-name!
Yep, that was Ryan. He shoulda been riding his new category (2), but he was 3 when he pre-registered, so he sandbagged his way to victory! Actually, it was no sandbag victory, it was a tough course and there were all kinds of unknown riders coming out of the woodwork in addition to the TMBRA regulars, so well done Ryan. We had lots of Cypresswoodies there and several podiums - with a real podium to stand on as well! Gerard and I were both 3rd in our categories, not sure who else was on the podium.
Lance (also known as "Juan Pelota") came out and gave a nice speech ahead of the Pro-Cat-1 awards, which really brought home how amazingly cool it was for him to invite the local yokels to come and play on his ranch. The event had super organization with lots of big vendors in support and of course some other big names racing. The course was great with a bit of everything - some technical rocky parts, fast downhills and fast flowing sections. It was particularly interesting for many of us who didn't pre-ride because of the rain on Saturday, so Lap 1 was the pre-ride!
A big group of the Ghorba-girls were out, with several of them going OTB. All are fine except Anne who unfortunately has a cracked wrist. I managed to survive unscathed - my new suspension fork was a big help on the bouncy downhills (Yes, I have whimped out and now have some squish in my bike : ) )
Lance is talking about doing it again next year and we're hoping that TMBRA can work something out with him because events like this are a huge shot in the arm for Texas mountain biking.

I think Ryan had the fastest Cat 3 lap time of all classes! I opted out of racing and volunteered with the time keepers.

Hi all! Who all from Cypresswood participated? Results?
Congrats to our local Cypresswood riders who raced at Juan Pelota Ranch
yesterday. We were represented well from Cats 3 to 1. Great job guys!

It is in Dripping Springs, 24 miles west of Austin and the ranch another 8 miles north of Hwy. 290. I do not think it will be open to the public unless a race is going on.

Tough! I found myself searching for lower gears. One rider said when I asked for
trail condition: "if you can ride a lap without a dab or getting off your bike,
you're good". I'd say that's a fair description of the trail.
Climbing is spread out all through out not just one particular area. Start,
middle and at the end, you will be climbing.... on limestone rocks!
Kudos to SS racers who will do it on Sunday.

Steve and Kit's group cleared up the trail last week from the bowl coming back. The bypass is still a temporary trail. If we get a big enough turnout, we can work on a permanent solution.
Juan Pelota Ranch is a great trail. Not for the weak of heart! It made our trail system look like a child's play. Reminds me of Camp Eagle and Reimers Ranch put together. It's a fun trail with lots of technical climbing. Oh, did I forget to mention rocks? Lots of awesome view when you get to the top, real nice scenery.

Anybody on the waiting list for pre-ride only? A friend on mine registered for
pre-ride only but won't make it on Saturday. PM me and I will give you details
on how to pick up the bib to pre-ride.

I think it is Bill's loper. Is it a Fiskar? I rode the trail today and the
bypass we put in flows pretty good. Took some time and cleaned a lot of the face
slappers over on the trails around Shermans house too.
