Since it rained yesterday morning, is the work party moved to next
weekend, April 7th?

Kevin, after I sent the original post, I realized that this could open up a big can of worms, so I will stand corrected as the "suggestion" might not be the politically correct "thing to do", and that I definitely will not write a letter to the owner. SO,I will continue to monitor your informative updates and wish you the best of luck in this endevour. Have a nice and dry rest of the weekend!!

Dear all:
I am remaining in close touch with the situation regarding the private land. There are no negotiations active at the moment, but I think that the landowners are probably still hopeful of an alternative deal which would involve some development of their land and the rest going to the county. I explained that scenario last year, since that was the way things looked like they were going when TPL were still acting as intermediaries.
I understand and share your concern that the land will ultimately be preserved and trails be re-built - I have been working hard on that for 4 years now, along with the assistance and support of many of you. However, I am sure that letters to the landowners will not help the situation and I ask, and recommend, that you do not do that. Everyone is free to do their own thing, but always remember that the purpose of this group forum was to try to unify and direct efforts towards preservation of Cypresswood Trail. The current situation is frustrating, but I do ask for your continued patience.

Is there any value or necessity in a letter writing campain to the owner of the private property? (just a thought, of course...) The following HCAD information has been obtained from their website:
Brandon, Kevin & Company,
Boy do I have an uber case of guilty for not coming out and helping you
gus with any of the new trail work. You guys have done an amazing job
of remedying the flow issues presented by not having the private land
at our disposal. I parked at Collin park and rode the trail behind the
basball diamond out past spring gully the made the turn back into the
woods at spring gully and took the left at the back along the creek,
down to the TC Jester / private land intersection. At that point I
backtracked to the retention pond and back out to spring gully and rode
down cypresswood to the bowl and dropped back in to the trails, did a
loop on the east side( love the connection that dumps you back out next
to the creek - nice and tight). My question is are there any plans for
entry/exit points just east and west of the private land to minimize
the ride along cypresswood ... or did I miss them.
Cheers and thanks again for all of the great work.

I am overdue an update on sale of the private land. I am keeping in touch with the county and the offer by them to purchase the land was not accepted. At the moment, the county are proceeding with condemnation of the 4 acres they need for construction of the T.C.Jester road expansion. Construction of the road is due to commence this July. Unfortunately we have to continue to wait and see how things work out. A frustrating situation for everyone, but I'm afraid we have to be patient.

Anyone riding this afternoon? If so look for me on the trails - big
guy on a Red specialized S-Works.
My second time back to cypresswood since the private land was logged.
Cheers

Wes - see if you can join Brandon for the work party on Saturday and then you'll be able to see where the trails are located, because, as Sam mentioned, you missed the trail on your ride.

Good Evening,
I rode Cypresswood this morning from Collin Park behind the baseball diamonds to Spring Gulley and up to Cypresswood Drive, then continued on Spring Gulley up to Louetta, then backtracked to Collin. Where was the washed out area? I missed it (which is probably a good thing...) Have a great week, see ya'll at Double Lake in May (still wondering why they call it Double Lake when there is only one...)
You missed the Cypresswood trails altogether. You should have crossed
Spring Gulley and turned in after that.

This coming Saturday we'll be out at the trail to do some maintenance at Cypresswood. We need to clean up the trail to get it back to good riding conditions and reroute a section that is severly eroding due to the recent heavy rains. We'll be meeting at Collins (Cypresswood) Park at 8:30 near the skateboard park. Stuff to bring: trimmers, shears, saws, rakes, gloves or any other tools you have available. Mosquito repellent and water will be needed. Hope to see many of you there. In the event of bad weather to check the status of the work party you can reach me at 281-795-1813.
Brandon - I will be out of town for this. Sorry.

I think it's about time to re-route that part, Dennis. Sid and I
blocked it with some branches the other day on both ends to prevent
people from riding it, was it still blocked when you rode it?
We can re-route to the trail we started a while back but did not
finish. Get the little climb going to the bowl and finish the loop.

We now start at Collins park behind the Library on Cypresswood. You will
find the trail head behind the ball fields and you can ride all the way
to the bowl section and back. If you ride all the trails and return to
the park you should get about 8.5 miles in.

I rode last night and we need to build a bridge, or reroute around the washed out area. We also need to finish the loop we started southwest of the retention pond and there is a very dangerous washout between the bowl area and the first dropoff. This needs to be rerouted and blocked off before someone falls off the ledge. It is know less than two feet in width.
The big question is when? Brandon, set up a date and I'll try to be there. It's a busy time of year for all.

Anybody know how where the new trails at Burroughs park are? Last time I was out there it was mostly walking trail. Good for a fast run, and lots of potential for single track ... but it is a big park and I would rather not wander about trying to find the single track.
For those of you interested in working on the new Timber Lane Trail, here is an e-mail I just received from my contact at the Timber Lane Utilities District, who is heading up this project:
TRIAL CONSTRUCTION (2.5 MILES) TO BEGIN 4/3/07 9AM-6PM AND EVERY DAY 9AM-6PM THROUGH 4/14/07.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED - ANYTIME YOU CAN WORK JUST CALL ME AT 281-288-9725 FOR A WORK LOCATION

SO CALL ME AT 281-288-9725 TO RESERVE A TIME. WE NEED TO HAVE A TOTAL OF 20 HOURS OF VOLUNTEER

Equality is cool, but if motorized vehicles on HCFD land aren't
allowed by law, they aren't allowed. So it really isn't up to anyone
on this message board. They shouldn't be there period. At the same
time it doesn't mean thet we need to go out there in our war gear and
set up perimeters to catch these guys. Just talk to them like
civilized people when ya see them and I think they'll understand...and
if they don't. "Bring out the nets boys!" J/k
