Re: [cypresswoodtrailgroup] News Update

Kevin (or anyone else in the know),

I and a few good men I ride with live between I-45 and K'ndahl.  We are all fairly new to Houston and we love riding the Cypresswood trail (Improper?) the one off of Cypresswood and K'ndahl, but we want some new riding adventures, especially if in the worst-case scenario we (collectively) lose the trail to development.  If anyone could give some specific directions to some good trails near I-45, it would much appreciated.

Its been a while since my last update on the effort to save the
trail, and there's not much to report except to say that the Trust
for Public Land (TPL) are still working on it. They remain in
negotiations with the seller and are continuing the effort to
appraise the land and reach an agreeable price. Details of the
negotiations are being kept confidential (from me, as well as the
rest of us) which is standard procedure. This is taking a long
time, but the good thing is that we are very well connected and
engaged in the process. I hope that TPL, acting as intemediaries
between the seller and the end purchaser (Harris County Flood
Control District) offer the best chance for the seller to realize
maximum value for the land, while still preserving it from
conversion to concrete.

Welcome to all the new members who've been signing up lately. I
hope that you've received the standard status report, recently
amended so you know what we are trying to achieve through this
group. The message board has been quiet lately - all are encouraged
to participate in the process. Although the negotiations to
purchase the land into public ownership are well in hand, there's
still work to be done to assist the Cypress Creek Greenway Project
with the overall right of way along the creek. Cypresswood Trail
will be just one small element of the greenway.

I have heard from one or two people who are using some trails
downstream, closer to I-45, and in fact I did some exploring down
there a couple of months ago. If you live between Kuykendahl and i-
45 - do your own exploring, engage with your local HOA and MUD board
and start connecting and keep in touch.

Happy Trails,

Kevin Highfield
