Hi
I am sure that you all know that Portsmouth was the first
city in UK to introduce 20 mph speed limits across all its residential roads.
It has been a beacon in bringing a
better environment to all its residents with this ground-breaking initiative.
Well now a major conference is planned for September 29th
in Portsmouth which will focus on how the city has implemented its scheme and
the ripples which it has created throughout the UK
Most importantly the conference will feature the results of
the independent review and evaluation of the scheme by DfT and Atkins.
There will be presentations from Portsmouth Councillors and Transport Officers, and also Hampshire
Police.
Representatives from Oxford, London and Northern Ireland
will also present on the way similar initiatives are being followed up there.
We believe that this will be a landmark conference for Road Danger
Reduction in the UK.
Hence any transport officials or councillors will find this
a very useful day, and a great opportunity for them to find out what has really
happened in Portsmouth and how the same benefits may be applied in their own
authority. 20’s Plenty for Us will also be there and are planning to
network as much as possible.
I would therefore urge you all to forward the attachment in
this email to your local councillors and officers to give them the opportunity
to ensure that can maximise the opportunities for your city, town or village to
follow Portsmouth.
