The news we have all been awaiting for a very long time…

Work to start on construction of Chester Millennium Greenway extension to Mickle Trafford.….

The company  Barhale Construction Plc. will construct the route and carry out the work on the railway bridge.

They intend to start on site on the 29 June for 16 weeks. The first few days of the contract will involve the set up of the site compound and the engineering works for the site access ramp onto the track bed. The construction of the greenway is then programmed to generally work in an westerly direction from Mickle Trafford towards Chester.

The  closure of the footpath (FP2 Hoole Village) Guilden Sutton while work is carried out in this location (near the Park Farm Byway). Signs will be erected on site letting people know that it is closed. The work in the area of the footpath is not expected to take any longer than a week to complete and as soon as it is safe to open the path again we will.

The path may have to close it again for a couple of hours in September while the final surfacing operation takes place.
The main site works will be supervised by my colleagues in our Highways and Transportation department with the bridge works being supervised by the Project Bridges department. The bridge works will take place on a number of overnight rail possessions with the main works being undertaken Monday to Friday.

A press release is being prepared (by the |Highways dept. ) to inform the public of the timescales for the project. Residents directly affected by the works will be contacted by letter and a more general letter drop for residents who back onto the old railway line is also planned. The Revive team are currently marketing the greenway and there will be attitudinal surveys prior to work starting on site.

Three Cheers and happy walking and cycling to you all.

Audrey
