Your tale is indeed fascinating,  Seems to be a case of not what y'know, but who y'know!

I will share this gem with CTC's Right to Ride forum and the Chester Cycling Campaign. We''ll see if anything comes up..

Subject: Arriva trains and bikes

Ar gyfer cyflymder, mae'r neges hon yn Saesneg yn unig - ymddiheurwn...

I've written this message in English because I'm just about to dash out of the office - but - I just wanted to share this advice that if you don't speak Welsh yourself and want to book your bike onto an Arriva train, you might want to enlist the help of a Welsh-speaker.

I'm travelling to Bangor from Cardiff for work by train tomorrow and decided to take my bike rather than taxis when I get there. So, I rang the helpline on Arriva's website on Friday, which turned out to be the Trainline's call centre in India. The person who answered the phone assured me there was no room for a bike on either my outward or return journey, neither was there room on trains either side of the ideal time I wanted.

Thinking about it over the weekend, I was suspicous that his answer when I asked about the other trains was more than a little glib - I don't think he'd checked at all.

So, this morning, I phoned Arriva on 08456 061 660, option 1 for Welsh and conducted the same inquiry in Welsh.

Guess what? Result! My bike is booked on the trains I wanted, with an email to confirm from an extremely helpful woman at the end of the line.

Pob hwyl,

Amanda
