The Conwy Estuary cycle path promises to be an outstanding success for all. Having personally played some part in seeing off the incredibly negative opposition that tried to stop its construction, it is pleasing to hear of events such as the five mile Deganwy Dash on the 29th May, when 100 runners will be using the path..
Similarly, CTC has also long argued the case for the Pen y Clip bridges between Llanfairfechan and Penmaenmawr. With this work about to be completed, and the benefits become realised to local residents, there will be an opportunity here for an outstanding mountain race circuit likely to attract competitors from far and wide.
It is with such events in mind that CTC has fought, and continues to fight, for inclusivity of our public spaces, where cycling, walking, and all manner of healthy activities may take place in traffic-free conditions..
That such inclusivity is denied to cycling on Llandudno's vast promenade, when many cyclists lack the skills and confidence to use the narrow and often congested adjacent road, makes a mockery of the local authority's policy against discrimination and social exclusion. Will it take a serious incident on the road, perhaps involving a child cyclist, to make the public wake up to this injustice in its name?
