It's nice to get some good news for a change and this week there are two positive items to report :
1. The new authority, Cheshire West and Chester (CWAC) yesterday agreed mileage rates of 40p per mile for cyclists and 40p per mile for car users.. Simon assisted with background work on this and together with effective lobbying I think we managed to achieve a great deal.
2. About two years ago the campaign were checking the planning application for reuse of the hospital site in Liverpool. We discovered that the development brief included one of our requests from many years ago, that there should be a cycle route from Deva Lane, along Parsons Lane to Knolls Bridge. However the applicant had overlooked this, the campaign made representations and it was made a clear planning condition.
The really great news is that the work has been done and a high quality 3 metre tarmac route is now in place with tidy fencing. The work must have cost around 100k but all of that was paid for by the developer.
Cheshire County Council's former public rights of way unit assisted in establishing the route.
This is a major victory for Chester Cycling Campaign and should be celebrated.
