It strikes me that there is nothing to stop multiple voting by using different e-mail identities (OK, the T's & C's say you shouldn't, but who will check?) - most of us have at least a couple of email addresses. Has anyone tried to phone in their vote? - do they ask if you have already voted on line?
From what I have seen so far, this is as much about ITV ratings as anything else. Given the sums of money at stake, I would have thought that the results (unless they are overwhelmingly in favour of one project) must be open to legal challenge. I don't suppose for a minute that the Electoral Reform Society or other such body has been involved.
If it was an election in Russia, no doubt our politicians would have something to say about the mechanics As it is, I am confident that in due course we will be told that the scheme's success should make us confident of moving to electronic voting for our local and parliamentary elections too.
or am I just too old and cynical?

From the Help pages:How do I check that I have cast my vote successfully? To check that you have cast your vote first login to the website.Once you are logged in, check the grey login box located in the WebPages header. If you have successfully voted the text will read, “Supporting [project’s name]”. If your vote has not been cast it will read “Cast your vote”.I do wonder if we should recommend that everyone checks that their vote is registered in the Login box.
I had quite a confusing time and it appeared to be willing to let me vote several times. After consulting the Help pages and seeing the above, I discovered that it had me logged in as my husband who had voted several days before - I had used a different Login and password.I am confused and a little concerned by the site/voting - I was bothered that if I had voted several times (unintentionally I mean!) that would invalidate things, and I wonder with the telephone voting how the system will check that people haven't voted already, given that we haven't had to give postal addresses. (It would be too much if this vote got cancelled/declared invalid, after all the work that's gone in!)

I have just got round to voting. You DO get a positive confirmation that your vote has been counted (I thought that I had voted, but wasn't sure, so kept ticking the empty Sustrans boxes and going to the next page - eventually, I got to a page which asked for me to copy two semi-obscured security words - not to be confused with the similar check when registering ). After this, I got a note that my vote had been counted.
PLease make sure that you all see the notification before assuming that it is all done and dusted.
