Madam/Sir

As editor of the ' CTC Cymru 'Cycling North Wales' website, the following
picture was uploaded last Sunday.
http://www.cyclingnorthwales.co.uk/pages/pics_27.htm

Its message was simply to illustrate that such paths will be well used, if
properly cared for by all those responsible for their upkeep and protection.
The message below speaks for itself.

This is the time of the year cyclists of all persuasion dread. Whether it
be country lane, or cycle path, hedge trimming without clearing up
afterwards is a major annual problem. It is an offence and should be
enforced by the local authority.

As the mornings become darker, it takes little to imagine a worker cycling
to work for the 6am shift and encountering hawthorn cuttings. The path in
question between Dyserth and Rhuddlan has only been laid in recent times.
It is adjacent to the Bodrhyddan Estate.

Enquiries suggest that a significant number of other cyclists have been
affected using this path. The path between Rhuddlan and Meliden also
provokes many complaints each year, so that many cyclists refuse to use it..

Halfords Cycles, Rhyl, say they have had a surge of customers from the
Rhyl/Prestatyn area with punctures - the deputy manager was already aware of
path I was referring to when I telephoned

Despite the indifferent weather during this summer, there has been a marked
increase in people cycling. This is what the government wants, and society
needs. But there is a profound lack of understanding and indifference at
all levels, of the protection cycling needs, if it is to play its full part
in a healthy vibrant society.
