Cycle Lanes in Chester   Message List

There is an interesting article re Cycle lane width on http://www.warringtoncyclecampaign.co.uk/ whichappears to reinforce other research that concludes that narrow cycle lanes are worse than none at all.  The photos in the article could be explained purely by the different driving habits of the different members of each pair of drivers but the general gist does seem to reinforce  what I have found from personal experience.

Perhaps we should have a competition for the most badly designed and executed cycle lane in the County?

My nomination would be the A41 from Upton Heath to Moston (by the zoo). The lane is about 3 feet wide, has uneven gratings and has a footpath a few yards away which could easily have been widened into a dual use foot/cycle path.  It was originated by someone who has never ridden a bike and who probably had an urgent "cycle lane miles target" to meet.
