Message on CTC's Right to Ride group line for your information.

The Rod referred to is Rod King of the Warrington Cycling Campaign.  A very active campaigner at the cutting edge nationally. A regular correspondent on a range of issues, and a much valued colleague.  Worth clicking into the Warringtom website http://www.warringtoncyclecampaign.co.uk/

Subject: [CTC-RTR] Re: Fw: Cycle Helmets and Coroners

Roy, Rod

By chance, your discussion yesterday of the role of coroners came on the very same day that the Government published a draft Coroners Bill.  I’m not going to have time to read it for a bit (the Scottish National Transport Strategy and the newly published draft Manual for Streets are currently higher on my reading list, and the MfS is a damn large document!)  But I would encourage you to have a look at the draft Bill and see if you think there are opportunities to press for amendments which would help overcome the problems of Coroners “sounding off” with ignorant comments.

We will doubtless work closely with RoadPeace, the road crash victims’ charity, in deciding how to respond to this Bill – they have far more knowledge than we do of the failings of the Coroners’ Court system and what needs doing to rectify these.

Best wishes

Roger Geffen
