A personal thanks to Rod King and his chums at Warrington for a first class
Autumn CCN/CTC Conference. Only regret was failing to touch base with those
whose name's appear regularly on this line, but who I have never had the
pleasure of meeting in person. Still, it was great to renew campaigning
friendships and listen to brilliant presentations, not least of all from Rod
himself.
How reassuring to know that you're not completely mad when you hear someone
else articulating something which defies normal traffic logic, but which as
cyclists applying intellectual objectivity we know to be correct. I shall
always remember Prof John Adams' fascinating visual sequence of the kids
running across four lanes of busy traffic with a three foot barrier in
between, illustrating the concept of the 'desire line'. Apparently 'safe'
from a statistical point if view ! So I left for home very satisfied with a
day well spent.
Over a hundred attended, but considering Warrington is located in one of the
densest areas of population in the country with its fair share of members,
where were all those clubmates who like to ear'ole you with their own
personal complaints about the world in general, and British roads and
drivers in particular, but were not prepared to share time supporting a
venture which is very much in their interests? But then I suppose it's the
old story of the talkers and the do'ers. There's those that pull their
tripes out in various capacities to keep the train on the track, and there's
the rest of 'em.................! But that lifebuoy
A toast to absent friends ! and thanks again to Warrington Cycling Campaign
