This topic is the focus of current work by the Chester Cycling Campaign. A
good way of tackling this, therefore, is to joint the Campaign (if you are
not already a member) and attend our meetings where we discuss such matters.
At last week's meeting, we devoted a lot of time to bike parking provision
at the station, and were able to review some proposals by Arriva. CCC
members have met with Arriva staff (who are part of the station
redevelopment) and came back from the meeting with some plans which we were
able to study.
This week we are commenting collectively and individually on the proposals
(which were indeed absent from the plans shown at the hotel a couple of
weeks ago). There are special forms for sending in comments - deadline
might be November 11th.
If there was any interest, I could scan my form and OCR it to turn it into
an editable document, and email to anyone who wants a copy. Please let me
know.
The CCC is suggesting Sheffield racks in a herringbone pattern (to
accommodate 100 bikes) under video surveillance and visible from the main
station concourse.

Subject: [cyclomania] Chester Station
I park my bike at Chester Station three or four times a week to get
to work in Manchester. At the moment several dozen cycles are parked
there each day, and the racks are usually full. The recently
published plans for `developing' the station show no provision for
cyclists at all.
If 'Sheffield' style racks are not provided under cover in an area
of activity (not out of the way, or in the rain), I'll either drive
to Chester, or to Helsby, or more likely drive the whole way since I
would already be in my car.
I don't know if the designers have just forgotten about cycling
altogether, or have shoved us to an unspecified area off the plan –
in which case it is unlikely to meet the need for convenience, cover
or safety. But there is a need for it to be considered now, before
more of us are forced into cars.
I'm fairly new to Chester - what is the best way of tackling this?
