For information, I have posted the following letter to the local
(Chester) papers - I wonder if it will get published!!
"I have just been informed by the Regional Officer of SUSTRANS, (the
Charitable company that currently manages the millennium cycleway
through Chester) that he has received his first ever petition for
opening an access to a cycleway!
Local residents in the Hoole/Newton area have shown they are keen to
see an informal access officially adopted and upgraded to provide an
improved access for walkers, wheelchair users, pushchair users and
cyclists to get to the traffic free cycle-route to Deeside at the
bridge where Newton Lane crosses the millennium cycleway route.
I hope residents in other areas of Chester which border the
millennium cycle and walk way will have similarly enlightened
attitude towards creating further access points to this lovely route
through the city to get to the countryside. All too often people are
opposed to creating access points to such traffic free routes.
The more access points there are, the more useful the route becomes,
and the more people will see what a wonderful investment has been
made in the form of this traffic free route linking several
communities together and providing a safe and pleasant way to access
the countryside without making use of motorised transport.
Here's to a healthy and "greener" future!"
