Rrraport,
Wow, lucky. And get better fast, but
cautiously.
Where was the pothole? If anyone here is
close enough to inspect it, identify it’s exact location, confirm that it
remains a danger to cyclists then it should be reported to the DOT or town
maintenance people who may repair it.
If we don’t report it it is unlikely
that

Subject: [ctbike] Value of helmets
(and knowing your bike)
Sunday I was riding a folding bike, and hit a pothole
a block from my
destination. Wouldn't have been a problem with any of my other bikes,
but with the small wheels on a folder, my front wheel got wrenched to
the side. Instead of my going down, the folders' 18" long stem and
seat post acted like levers, and catapaulted me over the handlebars.
Witnesses said I got some altitiude, then hit the road head-first,
then sumersaulted at least twice. Fortunately someone stopped
traffic, as I was out cold in the middle of the traffic lane where I
ended up.
I woke up in the ambulance, and in the ER the nurse showed me the
bloody helmet, which had split`open from the impact.
The good news is thanks to a $38. helmet I spent`one day in the ER
getting X-rays and getting my thoughts back, and was lucky enough to
go home with no permanent injuries.
A concussion, a crached rib, a broken toe, and acres of bruises and
road rash was it. Without the helmet, I'd certainly still be in the
hospital-or worse.
I hope to be back on the bike in a week, if my rib allows it.
