All,
Your comments please. In a few days I will forward the results to the Southwest Regional Planning Agency and the State Bike/Ped Coordinator.
After reviewing a number of bike maps and the eMail responses to my prior message here is a list of what I think would be useful for a bike map.
1. Suggested routes, both local and cross-state.
2. Multi-use and off-road trails.
3. Sufficient map detail to orient the user – ie, street/road names and towns.
4. Indications of terrain.
5. Mileages between points.
6. Significant elevations (topography is nice if it doesn’t get too “busy.”)
7. A key to shoulder width, lane count and average daily traffic.
8. Services – Restaurants, camping/lodging, recreational areas, groceries, transportation hubs
9. Special inserts for congested areas, ie
10. Designation of major routes such as the East Coast Greenway and Adventure Cycling routes.
11. Clear designation of river crossings and other gotchas.
12. State laws, safety information, important phone numbers, and resources.
