Subject: HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO CT SMOKY JOE WOOD CHAPTER!
Hi all! Happy Holidays! We are making progress in a few areas. I talked recently to Bob Wood (who is recovering from a case of the shingles), and he agreed that the weekend of June 16-18 was a good time to have the "SMOKY JOE WOOD NIGHT" at Yale Field, which we have been discussing with the New Haven Cutters. We hope to step up our planning for this big event, as we move into 2006.
Also, I have invited Bob Wirz, from the Cutters' front office, to speak at our next chapter meeting, which is on Sat. Feb. 18 at Quinnipiac University. Bob has previous experience with the Kansas City Royals, as well as with the Commissioner's office, so I think that he will be of great interest to us. I also invite others interested in doing a presentation to contact me ASAP. It might be interesting to hear Rich Marazzi talk about rules interpretations (if he is available), given some of the unusual plays that occurred in the 2005 playoffs. I would like to do the trivia contest earlier as well. Please save your directions to Quinnipiac from the Oct. 29 meeting, and we hope to hear from Larry Levine re where we will be on Feb. 18.
Also, as a reminder, the NYC regional will be on Sat. Jan. 28-details to follow. NY chapter member Ross Adell is not well, and we'll keep you informed about this. Len Levin and Dave Gumbley are coordinating efforts to have our respective NE SABR chapters attend a Red Sox game at Fenway. The most likely date is June 10, so let me know if you are interested!
Again, Happy Holidays, and hope to see you at Quinnipiac on Sat. Feb. 18 (probably same 11:30-4:30 format as on Oct. 29, and hope the weather cooperates-it'll be SPRING TRAINING by then!)!
Best wishes, Steve K.
