Subject: Future activities
HI all! The Hall of Fame induction ceremony is this upcoming weekend up at Cooperstown. Joe Williams is going-anybody else? It would be good to get a report on this. I might go there in August. The SABR Leatherstockings chapter up there is meeting this weekend as well.
I hope that some of you made it to the Adonis Terry event, so any reportbacks on this would be of interest as well.
Dick Thompson, a SABR member and author from Mass, has asked for our help in the following matter:
He is seeking info about a 22 inning, 5-4 game that was played in Hartford, probably in the 1933-1937 period. Schoolboy Johnny Taylor (Hartford native!) won this game from Cannonball Bill Jackman. Both pitchers were African-Americans. Jackman may have been playing for the Philadelphia Colored Giants, or the Boston Colored Giants, or the Will Jackman all-stars. Taylor was perhaps playing for a local Hartford team. Dick thinks that this game occurred early in the season, in April or May.
If anyone can help with this, then please contact Dick at: Wheezeball@...
Finally, we need to make some plans for future meetings. Anyone want to go to a game in August? Shall we go back to Quinnipiac on a Sat. in Oct? Please send me your thoughts on this ASAP.
Best wishes, Steve K.
