The Toes on the Nose contest has been cancelled for 2004. The reason
was claimed to be because of a trucker strike, but regardless, we'll
have to wait until June 2005 for the next Rabbit Kekai appearance in
Costa Rica.

The first contest of the CR National Circuit will be in Esterillos
Central on October 9-10. Visit www.surfingcr.com for how to sign up!

Are you jonesing for some Lisano or other Costa Rican foods? Check

TIDES *for Saturday
(add 50 min. each day after)

Full Moon - September 28th

Low Tide: .02 ft at 11:10 am
High Tide: 8.54 ft at 5:23 pm

NATIONAL FORECAST

Pacific - It will be a great week for dawn patrols with the high tide
taking place midmorning. Keep on the lookout for stormy conditions to
bring onshores in early. As for size, it will drop to chest to head
high by Sunday and stay like that through Tuesday morning. Then by
the afternoon, overhead sets with a 13 second period will start
filing in and by Wednesday afternoon it will be consistently
overhead. Expect another foot bigger Thursday and a Friday with a
steady 1-2 foot overhead SSW swell for next weekend.

Caribbean - This weekend and through next week, no wave relief, only
calm seas perfect for diving and snorkeling. Keep an eye out for
afternoon thunderstorms.

AREA REPORTS

NICOYA (N)

** From Diana at Pura Mar Surf Shop in Tamarindo (www.puramar.com)-

Sorry there's not a lot of good news to report this week. The wind
has been blowing on shore 24 hours a day for the last week and the
ocean is a mess. There's a fair amount of swell--in fact this morning
waves were breaking out in the middle of the bay. The problem is that
it's super-sloppy and dumpy. It's been raining every day in the early
mornings and in the evenings, leaving the days humid and somewhat
sunny.
mucha humididad.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este
fin de semana (clima y olas): As the high tide comes around to dawn
there may be hope for some decent early morning sessions this
weekend. That and this wind can't go on forever...

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
surfear este fin de semana en su area: If conditons remain the same,
the Capitan Suizo should be the best. It's the most protected and can
work in a south wind.

** From the Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande -

The waves have been running head high to just over head with
occasional decent shape (unusually good for this time of the year).
The afternoon showers are helping to glass it off. There have been a
few days this week that never cleaned up at all. There was some run
off silt in the water on Thurs., but we haven't been hit
by "chocolate milk" surf yet.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este
fin de semana (clima y olas): Now that high tide is moving into the
morning hours, conditions should improve. We are not encouraging
people to come out here right now, but you can take your chances with
the light crowds.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
surfear este fin de semana en su area: The swells are coming straight
in and anywhere in the bay that's smooth is a possibility.

** From Tropico Latino Lodge in Santa Teresa (north of Mal Pais) -

We are praying for everybody in Golf of Mexico. We are in a safe zone
here in Santa Teresa. The weather is still sunny almost everybody and
the waves are nice and glassy every morning till 10 am. El tamano
is "chest to he head" to "overhead", parece va a estar bonita playa
Santa Teresa todo el fin de semana.

AREA REPORTS

NICOYA (N)

** From Diana at Pura Mar Surf Shop in Tamarindo (www.puramar.com)-

Hey! So it isn't a lake anymore! A little bit of a swell came in
yesterday kind of from the west, it seems or at least not straight
south like they've been. The waves haven't been that big (waist to
chest) but so nice! The high tide is in the morning right now, so
getting out there at 7 or 8 has been perfect! And the greatest treat
of all is that I can surf right out in front of the shop without
having to battle 400 people!! Wow. I love the rainy season! True
there aren't many lessons and sitting in the shop is unbearably
boring as no o ne comes in, but if it means I can surf I'm not
complaining!! The wind stayed off shore until 10:30 or so and the
waves just kept coming. I actually got kicked around pretty bad by
one set that rolled in right before high tide. Amazing that waves of
that smallish size can actally be heavy enough to yank the board out
of your hands and roll you around. Can't wait till tomorrow.

This week has been unseasonably good with light offshore winds

Today, Friday, is a bit messier but there's still swell in the water

NATIONAL FORECAST

Pacific - Finally it can be said that next week, the waves will be
better in Florida than Costa Rica. This weekend shows chest high surf
with a bigger set each hour, and slowly builds back to overhead by
Monday. The overhead surf stays good Tuesday, but becomes less
frequent by the evening, and by Wednesday it's back under hiead high.
Then it will drop down to waist to chest for next Saturday up north,
and a foot bigger down south. Nothing big on the horizon, yet....

Caribbean - Nothing on the radar for the right coast, knee high with
a few bigger stomach high sets coming Monday and Tuesday. Then back
to flatness through next weekend. The path of Hurricane Francis may
provide some relief towards next weekend.

AREA REPORTS

NICOYA (N)

** From Diana at Pura Mar Surf Shop in Tamarindo (www.puramar.com)-

Today was a great day in Tamarindo! in general and especially for
surf lessons. The wind stayed light off shore until around noon. For
some reason even when the tide was going out and the wind was on
shore, some of the waves held their shape and it was a lot of fun. I
gave a second lesson to 10-year old Abbey from Colorado who was
catching waves and hopping to her feet. Then I gave a lesson to 3
fishermen from South Carolina (who found me through the website).
They were hilarious, did great and couldn't believe they could
actually do it. It looked like it was going to pour this afternoon
but so far it hasn't. I'm looking forward to the sunset which is
always the most spectacular when there are a lot of clouds.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este
fin de semana (clima y olas): One assumes that it will be stable,
nevertheless is expected perfection in agreement arrives the Sunday.
Being a small surge the best thing is to do is go in the mornings
with full tide and better conditions of wind.

Looking at this report from CR and I would like to know if you all
are calling 2 to 4 foot from the front of the wave or back?

We are looking to fly in on Wednesday to the following Thursday.
Some are saying that the surf is going to get small so 2 to 3 from
the
back is still fun for me.

Thanks

NATIONAL FORECAST

Pacific - For Sunday, surf is overhead to a foot over in the south
and rainy. Headhigh and clean up north. Monday will be stay the same,
but by late in the day the sets disappear. For Tuesday pack up and go
west, all the way to west Australia or the East Indies because they
are the lucky ones with a macker SW hitting dead on. In Costa Rica,
it's going to get small, down to waist to chest by Wednesday in most
spots. Get out the longboard Thursday through next weekend. Some
relief from the straight south will arrive in ten to twelve days, or
a tropical system may provide wave relief.

Caribbean - The rest of the weekend holds waist to chest high surf
for the beaches, a little bigger on the reefs. It gets small by
Monday afternoon, surf waist high at best. Nothing picks up through
the week, unless a wind swell kicks up from a tropical system. A few
chest high sets show up for Saturday, but dies off fast.

Waves in Tamarindo right now are pretty small--not many bigger than

Caribbean - Waves chest to shoulder high are keeping the weekend

AREA REPORTS

NICOYA (N)

** From Diana at Pura Mar Surf Shop in Tamarindo -

Right now the wind has been going on shore consistantly sometime near
mid-day. Waves in Tamarindo are 2-3 feet. Ahora el viento empieza a
soplar on-shore mas or menos al medio dia. Las olas en Tamarindo
estan de 2-3 pies.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este
fin de semana (clima y olas): A south swell is supposed to come in
over the weekend and light the place up. That should make for nice
evening sessions with the late afternoon tides.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
surfear este fin de semana en su area: Langosta is the best on a
south swell provided it doesn't get too much south wind along with
it.

** From the Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande -

Small, but some (you have to pick'em)nice waves for this time of the
year. Off shore in the morning with an occasional overhead set.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este
fin de semana (clima y olas): Risky with the high tide moving into
the afternoon, but look for rain and the Accompanying off shores.
Don't surf in the lightning!

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
surfear este fin de semana en su area: Chicken Head Rock and in front
of the hotel.

** From Joe from Witchs Rock Surf Camp in Tamarindo -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - The surf this week had been WEAK,
the only good news is that outside of town the south pulses have
brought surf up to the shoulder high plus range....also some nice
offshores on Monday and today (Friday)

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - It looks as if the
swell has started to slooooowly turn itself around. Saturday should
show a definite increase, and through the night into Sunday surf
should jump to the overhead to "a few feet" overhead at most spots.
This is going to be one of the bigger swells we've seen in a while.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - With too much swell
lately, its hard to tell what the sandbars in town are going to do
with the big swell. If its too big, find a local reef and get surfing!

NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS- WRSC Surf Resort beachfront hotel now open,

TIDES *for Friday
(add 50 min. each day after)

Full Moon - August 15th

High Tide: 9.38 ft at 6:50 am
Low Tide: .67 ft at 1:00 pm

NATIONAL FORECAST

Pacific - This weekend sees a strong south swell dissipate slowly,
from 2-4 foot overhead Saturday back down to 1-3 Sunday, overhead
high Monday, and head high at best Tuesday morning. By the afternoon,
another South swell brings some 17 second period sets, coming in a
foot overhead. Wednesday and Thursday see the same, before leaving
chest high conditions until Sunday. On 8/15, the long waited for 2
foot overhead sets return from a third South swell that had been
brewing in Chile. Will last through the weekend, 1-3 foot overhead.
Remember that beaches which don't get south swells too well, like
Tamarindo and Manuel Antonio, will be a lot smaller.

Caribbean - There's a tropical disturbance drifting into the
Caribbwean Sea and will send some East swell by Sunday afternoon,
chest high with a few head high sets. Monday and Tuesday are a foot
bigger, with potential for more juice if the storm develops.
Wednesday the swells peaks before dying fast by Thursday afternoon.
Mucha lluvia tambien.

High Tide: 9.19 ft at 1:15 pm

NATIONAL FORECAST

Pacific - The powerful south swell that is pummeling the coast with
surf of 8-13 foot faces Saturday will start to mellow a bit Sunday,
but by Monday it will still be 1-2 foot overhead. Then don't expect a
break, more south swell fills in all week, keeping it 2-3 foot
overhead and a 16 second period Tuesday and Wednesday. Watch for the
strong tide pull from the full moon Saturday.

Caribbean - The beaches stay small all weekend, knee to occasional
waist, and not until Monday late in the day will some bigger sets
appear. Tuesday will have some chest high waves, with the same
through Thursday before dying out for next weekend. Tropical activity
can change this scenario quickly.

AREA REPORTS

NICOYA (N)

** From Joe Walsh at Witchs Rock Surf Camp in Tamarindo -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Last weekend's swell (July 24/25)
dropped to shoulder/head high by Wednesday. Thursday July 29 we got a
strong spike in the swell and surf jumped to well overhead sets.
Tamarindo/Grande area was a bit walled up, some waves on the local
reefs were VERY good. Today July 30 the swell dropped again, but is
still looking to be shoulder high with bigger sets this afternoon on
the higher tide.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - The surf should
slowly drop off Saturday and a bit more on Sunday. Expect waist to
chest high surf in town throughout the weekend.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - Any beachbreak as the
surf doesn't have enough juice for the reefs.

Full Moon - July 2nd

Low Tide: .50 ft at 8:03 am
High Tide: 9.89 ft at 2:24 pm

NATIONAL FORECAST

Pacific - The 2-3 foot overhead swell arrives a day early, hitting
way down south Saturday afternoon and the rest of the coast by Sunday
morning. Two days after a new moon will have huge tide changes for
dawn patrols looking to hit a nice low tide break. The south swell
maxes out Monday and by Wednesday drops back to overhead and cleans
up nice. The only bad part is that is will be another 3-4 days before
the next SW arrives, leaving it chest to head for the next weekend.

Caribbean - It's waist to chest forecasted for the weekend, with
Sunday showing a few bigger sets and Monday getting up to headhigh +
from an East swell. Lasts through Tuesday, but dropping fast
Wednesday with only knee high waves expected to hit next weekend.

AREA REPORTS

NICOYA (N)

** From Diana at Puramar Surf Shop in Tamarindo -

This was one of those priceless mornings where I felt like God loves
me and wants me to surf. Wow. I went out three hours before high tide
in Playa Grande and it was just so beautiful. The thing about trying
to tell a surf story is that there really isn't much story apart from
the conditions "the wind direction and velocity, the clarity of the
water, the strength of the current, the shape of the waves as they
hit the sandbars. It was to die for. Who knows what tomorrow will be
like? I expect to be there, however, to find out!! After the morning
session today I gave a private lesson to a 50-something middle school
science teacher from Indiana. He did great, better than I thought he
would. Tomorrow after my morning session I have a long hot day of
bicycle-repair to look forward to. Anyone want a job?

** From Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande - AREA WAVE
overhead, off shore, and lots of perfect sets all up and down the
north end of the bay. Mellow crowds on Thurs. and Fri.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este
fin de semana (clima y olas): Afternoon high tide with some risk of
on shores, but perfect size if the wind cooperates. The very full
tides will make the windows illusive and quick.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
surfear este fin de semana en su area: All the peaks will be working
as the quick tides pass through them. The main peaks in front of the
hotel has been outrageous this week.

AREA REPORTS

NICOYA (N)

** From Diana at Puramar Surf Shop in Tamarindo -

A decent-sized south swell arrived here yesterday. I didn't get to go
out and ride it because guess what I was doing - teaching! I'll be
doing the same thing today, but TOMORROW I'm saving a little high-
tide time for me. Our swells come from the south this time of year
because it's winter in South America, so they're getting storms which
send us waves from that direction. Along with big swells like this
come big currents! Yesterday on the incoming tide myself, my helper
and my 5 girls who were having a GREAT first day on surf boards, all
got washed from the lifeguard stand (if you've been to Tamarindo this
will mean something to you) to the estuary in a matter of about 30
minutes and had to get out and walk back! Part of that was because of
the incoming tide, but mostly it's because when strong wave-energy
comes from the south, it pushes everything north including surfers!
The wind was off-shore (good) until about 2 PM which is GREAT for the
rainy season. I could hear it on-shore until I went to bed last night
(rather late) but this morning is gorgeous and sunny and I know it's
off-shore without having to go look. I'm sure it was perfect at dawn
this morning but I was still in bed recovering from my battle with
the currents yesterday, preparing to go hit it again today!

** From Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande - AREA WAVE
HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: We have a
good swell running (well overhead on the sets), and although glassy,
the off shores have not been on it for a couple of days and its soft

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este
fin de semana (clima y olas): Morning tides and swell should bring
good surf somewhere in the bay.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
surfear este fin de semana en su area: The main focus seems to be in
front of the hotel where it is running quite bigger.

** From Coconut Harry's Surf Shop in Nosara (playa Guiones) -

Consistent head-high set waves with building south swell. Lots of
lefts! Clean, light offshores in the morning with variable light wind
all day. Bigger surf expected over next 3 days.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este
fin de semana (clima y olas): Tamarindo is going to be great in the

and be even better.

New Moon - June 17th

High Tide: 8.42 ft at 9:51 am
Low Tide: 1.51 ft at 4:58 pm

NATIONAL FORECAST

Pacific - Saturday and Sunday look fine, 2-3 foot overhead at the
better spots, but less rip and a perfect dawn patrol tide. Then it
drops some each day through the week, a foot overhead by Monday
night, head high all week and through next weekend. Then a week from
Monday (6/21), a nice SSW swell arrives, long period, bringing surf
back up to 2-3 foot overhead.

Caribbean - This Saturday waves are waist to chest high, with rain
coming in frequently in the afternoon. Sunday and Monday look the
same with Tuesday morning starting a new push of E swell, head high
with bigger sets. The swell peaks Thursday, 1 foot overhead and by
Friday cleans up, but drops a foot by that evening.

TIDES *for Friday
(add 50 min. each day after)

Full Moon - June 2nd

Low Tide: -.07 ft at 9:13 am
High Tide: 10.2 ft at 3:32 pm

NATIONAL FORECAST

Pacific - Watch out for flooding this weekend and strong currents,
with high tide topping 10 feet. Three swells pushing in - the one
right now giving the beachbreaks some 1-3 foot overhead surf,
dropping Sunday to headhigh. Then another Monday afternoon from the
SSW, pushing it back up to 2-3 foot overhead and lasting through
Wednesday with a 13-14 second period. The nicest is a 18 second
period SW swell arriving next Friday, not too big, just a foot
overhead, but clean. Lots of storms are also expected along both
coasts as hurrican season kicks into gear.

Caribbean - Swell passing from the E to NE over the weekend with
waves head high, with a few overhead sets. Dropping a foot by Sunday
afternoon and leaving Monday only waist to chest high. Tuesday and
through the rest of the week is smaller, knee to waist high until
next weekend.

New Moon - May 18th

Low Tide: 1.21 ft at 10:05 am
High Tide: 8.67 ft at 4:20 pm

NATIONAL FORECAST

Pacific - Lots of stormy weather make finding glassy conditions
tough. However, by Monday the storms will pass and high tide will be
in the right frame for double dawn and dusk sessions. Surf size - 1-2
foot overhead this weekend, dropping down to overhead Monday and
chest to head high Tuesday. The next SSW pulse shows Thursday morning
and fills in Friday with more waves in the 1-2 foot overhead range.
Will drop back to head high by next Saturday, with nothing major for
a few days afterward.

Caribbean - Flatness has returned to paradise. Don't expect anything
over knee high all week. Time to hit the Pacific!

** From Green Iguana Surf Camp in Dominical -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - The waves are still pretty sizey,
and thumping, late afternoon sessions better, a bit more water is
better. also, steer clear of the floatees in the water....logs,
cocos, and branches have been floating around since the temporal
started. and clean out those ears after surfing!

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - It appears that
after a few days, the swell starts to come down, however, in the
meantime, try to dodge those sets! And, expect rain.
y, espere lluvia...

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - The beach in the
afternoons, maybe the point.

Have you ever camped out in a large open cave up in the mountains
with two waterfalls enhancing the view out to the Pacific ocean? The
next morning you can rapel down part of a 600 foot waterfall, just an
hour from Dominical. The gentleman who owns the site brings community
groups and church groups up on excursions, and is trying to preserve
the nearby jungle. Check this site - TREE of LIFE TOURS or email

TIDES *for Friday
(add 50 min. each day after)

New Moon - May 18th

High Tide: 8.15 ft at 11:25 am
Low Tide: 1.3 ft at 5:43 pm

NATIONAL FORECAST

Pacific - For Saturday through next week, each day it will get a
little bigger and cleaner, from the SSW. Saturday is chest to head
high with a few quality overhead waves. By Monday it's a foot bigger
and hovers in that size through Thursday. Thursday afternoon, 5/20,
the juice from a trailing SW swell fills in and by Saturday it's 2-3
foot overhead. Disfrutalo!

Caribbean - A late season has blessed the reefs with some ENE ground
swell, headhigh to overhead at the better spots, but fun every where.
Sunday morning will be the best, as the swell passes by Monday
leaving waist high peaks. Another band of E swell rolls in Wednesday
to bring head high surf going into next weekend.

** From Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande -

We've been enjoying offshore mornings this week to match our high
tides and perfect (just overhead) size swell. The surf has been a
little lazy compared to the crisp windy season waves we are used to,
but consistent, and light crowds. The tides are now too low for
afternoon sessions.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este
fin de semana (clima y olas): It looks like the offshores may hold
through the weekend, and then it gets a little dicey as the high
tides move into the afternoon next week with a high possibility for
afternoon onshores.

TIDES *for Friday
(add 50 min. each day after)

Full Moon - May 4th

Low Tide: -.42 ft at 10:20 am
High Tide: 10.07 ft at 4:39 pm

NATIONAL FORECAST

Pacific - The next SW fills in Sunday morning with surf 2-3 foot
overhead with sets every ten minutes. This is a solid ground swell
with an 18 second period that developed two weeks ago and will last
until next Thursday. Also expect an 11 foot tidal swing that will
amplify the swell with the tide coming in. (Locals, watch for
flooding!) Monday it drops a couple of feet, but by Tuesday it is
back to 1-2 foot overhead and if you are not there, you are missing
it! Go join my friend Denny in Pavones! Long range shows consistent
overhead surf through next weekend and by the following Wed. (5/19)
the start of another surge of SW, 2-4 foot overhead.

Caribbean - A consistent barrage of ENE wind and ground swell mix
keeps the beachbreaks in the chest to head high range throughout the
weekend until next Wednesday when it starts to fizzle. Reef breaks
may get 1 foot overhead, best day is Monday.

Low Tide: 1.81 ft at 5:22 pm
High Tide: 7.24 ft at 11:15 am

NATIONAL FORECAST

Pacific - The south Pacific is belching out SW'ers once a week, the
next surge coming Sunday afternoon with waves 2-3 foot overhead from
the SSW. The 14 second period swell drops a foot Tuesday and another
by Wednesday afternoon and by Thursday it's back in the head high to
overhead range with also a dawn patrol high tide. Then look out for
the next SW arriving next Sunday with some more 2+ overhead sets.

Caribbean - Out to prove me wrong, the Caribbean sea continues to
push in ENE swell in the waist to chest high range, with some beaches
getting head high sets. This lasts throughout the weekend and in well
into next week, consistently waist to chest. Watch out for some heavy
rain showers.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este
fin de semana (clima y olas): It's going to be a mid-day high tide,
so expect nice morning surf. It's going to be small, but should be
fun after the fast-closing bombers of last weekend.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
surfear este fin de semana en su area: The rivermouth has got a nice
longboard wave right now and Playa Grande should be fun.

Marathon surf session on Fri. morning. Perfect, just over head,
windswept twisters for 6 hour session with only a handful of surfers

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este
fin de semana (clima y olas): Same great conditions with a few more
people.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a

(add 50 min. each day after)

New Moon - April 19th

Low Tide: .91 ft at 11:06 am
High Tide: 8.47 ft at 5:22 pm

NATIONAL FORECAST

Pacific - SW swell right on time, Sunday afternoon will start to see
the first set trains bringing in some heavy 2-3 foot surprise sets.
Monday it gets a little more consistent, and then by Tuesday sets
from 2-5 foot overhead about every ten minutes. Wed and Thur are the
same and by Friday it starts to fade back to overhead, though still
will good consistency. Next Wednesday, more SW swell keeps the surf 1-
3 foot overhead and clean. Disfrutalo!

Caribbean - The big wave season on the right coast is over. Trace
knee high surf expected for the weekend, with a few waist high waves
pushing in Monday. By Tuesday it drops a foot and Wednesday it's
almost flat. Nothing for Thursday, but Friday a ESE wind swell pushes
in some knee to waist high mush. Go over to the Pacific to catch the
best swell so far in 2004!

AREA REPORTS

NICOYA (N)

** From Diana at the new Pura Mar Surf Shop and Rentals in Tamarindo -

We're in a lull right now, waiting for the swell that's supposed to
be on its way. The waves in Tamarindo are about waist high, winds off
shore in the mornings only. Thank God the water is finally warm
again.
caliente otra vez.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este
fin de semana (clima y olas): It should be a nice weekend for late
afternoon and sunset surf. Things are supposed to start changing on
Sunday when a swell comes in from the south.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
Avellanas should have nice waves right now and be even better when
the swell hits. Check Langosta on Sunday. Playa Grande y Playa

** From Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande -

After a great beginning this week, the swell has dropped down to head
high sets with barely enough juice to break at the super high tides
in the morning and afternoon. The wind has been slightly onshore for
the afternoon sessions for the last two days, but conditions in the
morning are holding with some good small waves on Thurs.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este
fin de semana (clima y olas): As we move into diminishing high tides
in the morning, and the new swell just around the corner, we are
expecting typical excellent April surf.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
surfear este fin de semana en su area: The main peak in front of the
hotel will be the spot until the swell fills in, then anywhere in the
bay could get interesting.

** From Denis at High Tide Surf Shop in Tamarindo -

nuevo.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a

(add 50 min. each day after)

New Moon - April 19th

Low Tide: .91 ft at 6:28 am
High Tide: 8.19 ft at 12:49 pm

NATIONAL FORECAST

Pacific - Waves up in Guanacaste will be near perfect, headhigh to 2
foot overhead, stiff offshores all day and lots of sunshine. The WNW
swell mixed with a SW will peak and ebb and foot through Monday,
before dropping down Tuesday to a very consistent head high from the
SW. Then by Wednesday, the sets are farther apart, but an occasional
overhead waves will sneak through. It stays smaller through the
weekend (chest to occasionally overhead), a foot bigger south of
Jaco, The following Monday, look out for some bomb sets and an epic
eight-nine days of SW swell! Book your flights or just get out da
hammock!

Caribbean - The peak of the NE swell pegging the reefs around Limon
this Friday slowly fades over the weekend, from overhead to headhigh
Sunday, and Monday back to waist to chest. Expect a few showers
midday as well. By midweek next week nothing big is coming but there
will be something to ride until the weekend, waist high from the ESE.

TIDES *for Friday
(add 50 min. each day after)

New Moon - April 19th

High Tide: 8.56 ft at 6:16 am
Low Tide: .09 ft at 12:14 pm

NATIONAL FORECAST

Pacific - Solid SW swell with a WNW mixed in brings overhead surf to
the whole west side, points are getting the cleanest waves as
beachbreak will be bowly or closed out. Will clean up and get two
feet smaller, back tohead high + by Sunday and super clean Monday.
Then by Tuesday afternoon, the first double overhead sets will start
hitting, and by Wednesday double overhead is the norm. Thursday, just
as big but even more consistent. Early morning post dawn patrol
sessions will be the absolute best time to paddle out.

Caribbean - Remnants of Atlantic stirrings lap on waist high on the
beaches, and the bigger swells don't push in any energy until next
Tuesday, when surf recovers to some chest high sets. Will set up to
be a nice midweek, consistent chest high with a few bigger sets at a
premier spot.

AREA REPORTS

NICOYA (N)

** From Diana, the best surf instructor in Tamarindo:

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones:
We're into the rainy season wind pattern in Tamarindo these days--off-
shore only in the mornings and evenings. The waves have been small;
waist high or maybe a little more at Pico Pequeno. Right now the
beach is crammed with Semana Santa vacationers.
Santa.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este
fin de semana (clima y olas): Dawn patrol is your only hope for surf
this weekend. Between the switching wind and the counteless swimmers,
it's a good weekend to get up early.
temprano.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
surfear este fin de semana en su area: If you know of a secret spot
this would be a great time to go there, but don't tell anybody! Si

** From Coconut Harry's Surf Shop in Nosara:

Hola from Playa Guiones! Head high set waves and lotsa people here.
Hasta semana santa. Coconut Harry
