Next Sunday afternoon the first sets of a strong almost straight South swell arrives in the Osa and brings more overhead surf to the rest of the Pacific by next Monday.
The Long Shot - The next all South swell lasts until August 12, and then it's small after that for another 5-6+ days.

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: With the high tides moving into the afternoon, the nice, just oversurf , surf is getting blown out early, creating small windows for excellent surf.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas): The chance for afternoon surf depends on the rain glassoffs and presence of lightning. The swell has been mostly clean and the on shores have been light. Very few people are going home as the wind comes on shore.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear este fin de semana en su area: Even Tamarindo has been pretty good, so just pick a spot.
There hasn't been much of a change with the conditions since the last update. The surf has been waist to chest high at best, but really without much power. There have been some bigger sets that have been mostly closed out, but some corners to be surfed (lefts mostly) going into the Tamarindo Rivermouth.
** From photographer John Lyman, Lyman Photos in Playa Negra - (8/2)
AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: The surf at Playa Negra has been on the small side with waist high waves with fair shape. Partly cloudy skies in the mornings and rain in the afternoons. Water temp is 83 degrees. Coming up will be an increase in the swells from the South. It's a little too south for Negra but Playa Avellanas will get it good. Head high with two to three foot over head on the sets. Because of it's steep south direction, alot of sets will be closed out. High tide is running through the very early mornings for the next few days so Negra should be the call very early and then head to Avellanas as the tide drops.
Well, good morning from Guiones. We really are at about as small as we can get today. The good news is, it's still waist high on the sets. A few folks are already out there very early to take advantage of zero wind. Last night we had a small push that was somewhat fun, so on and off today there should be periods of surf coming in. We're hoping for a new bump in swell around Tuesday or Wednesday, but it's hard to say how big it will be. Grab you long board or fish and get some surf. Andrew, out.
AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: All beach breaks are sloppy and closed out today. Late afternoon thunderstorms
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas): More of the same this weekend - new swell expected Monday - head high or better - and most beaches will have good conditions.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear este fin de semana en su area: Mal Pais reefs may catch some of the south swell. After Monday or Tuesday, Playa Carmen should be good for all levels.

Caribbean Coast - Storms in the Caribean continue to send down consistent waist high surf all week. By Friday a moving tropical system will push in some chest high plus sets by Thursday, lasting until the weekend.
Pacific Coast - More big waves expected this week, arriving Tuesday from the SSW with a period of 15 seconds. Expect surf 2-3 feet overhead with bigger sets on the incoming tides. It will drop the rest of the week only a little, down to overhead surf by Friday, particularly up on the Nicoya beaches. Then another round of SSW long period swell (17 secs) arrives Sunday morning, pushing surf back up to 2-4 feet overhead. Be careful of those riptides and check your leash before paddling out!
The Long Shot - Waves arrive from the WSW on August 5th in the 2-3 foot overhead range just as the last swell exits, so put away the longboards for the next two weeks.
TRAVEL --> American Airlines offering trips to Costa Rica for $240 RT from Miami and Fort Lauderdale on select dates in August - October. Lacsa flights as low as $189 in October. Contact us now to lock these in.

In addition there was a Tamarindo Scavenger Hunt which took place at Hotel Pasatiempo that raised $1,300 for them. AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: Perfect, just overhead, conditions should hold for a few more days with the wind off shore all day and the high tides occurring in the morning.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear este fin de semana en su area: This swell is coming straight in and is breaking from Tamarindo to the rock at the north end of the bay. Everyone is surfing in front of the hotel or in front of the cameras, but there is plenty of beach with peaks left over.
** From photographer John Lyman, Lyman Photos in Playa Negra - (7/26)
AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: This week Playa Negra has seen some good surf. Well over head with good shape with an almost perfect swell direction for the reefs here. No wind in the mornings and light onshores in the afternoons. Late afternoon glassoffs. Mostly cloudy skies with some rain in the afternoons. Water temp is 84 degrees. Click Today's Surf to check out the Playa Negra surf today. The over head waves we've been having the last few days will be winding down as we move into the weekend. Sunday starts a whole new round of overhead to double over head SW swell staying with us through Tuesday. High tide runs through the late mornings this week so hit Playa Negra early and you'll score.
Surf this morning in Guiones is in the chest high range, but was looking kind of funky at the 6AM photo time... I am doing the report outside on my porch and it feels like the wind is switching offshore as I am typing.... It could improve quickly with a change of wind, which I think we are getting. It is strange to have real offshores this time of year, but it was offshore and glassy all day yesterday. I scored some really good waves with almost nobody out, lets hope that today repeats...
AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: wednesday and thursday were classic Dominical peaks - well overhead, thick and fast, clean and mean. Too much fun to be legal. small crowd, grey skies, warm water, dolphins at the mouth, backside barrels for Andrew and Steve. Third time not a charm. Friday early, wrecked and surly. Drop in size, blown out and junky but cleaning up on the outgoing tide.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas): Building size we hope and expecting regular rains and heavy river flow with attendant peaks and rips.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear este fin de semana en su area: Dominical though good reports from Playa Hermosa (near Uvita) the past few days.
NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS- Noticias y dias especiales: Dominical Lifeguard Fundraiser a big success! Last Friday night Taylor at Que Nivel hosted a welcoming party for new lifeguard Andrew Webster from Encinitas, CA. Over $6000 was raised, a fine nights work for a small community.

Caribbean Coast - A tropical formation headed over Jamaica will be sending a few pulses of swell down by Tuesday afternoon, topping at head high on a good set. Leftover waist to chest high surf is expected for the rest of the week. This may change if the storm increase in intensity or changes direction.
Pacific Coast - A very consistent week for surf, with waves at least head high everywhere all week. Best times to surf will be when the tide is coming in and during the middle of the week the swell will be more from the SW, with SSW sets arriving Thursday and peaking Friday at 3 feet overhead. The waves last all through the weekend, dropping only a foot Saturday and another Sunday.
The Long Shot - Still more South South West coming in all next weekend in the 1-2 foot overhead range (a foot smaller up north).
TRAVEL - American Airlines offering trips to Costa Rica for $240 RT from Miami and Fort Lauderdale on select dates in August - October. Lacsa flights as low as $189 in October. Contact us now to lock these in.

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: Conditions are very raw here now with this hefty swell and afternoon on-shores for the high tide.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas): The swell seems to be relaxing a little, and as the high tide moves into the morning, we're probably in for some decent surf.

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: Today the surf is double overhead on the sets with some sets even bigger. Check out the Today's Surf link to see how big it is. The swell is a little too south for Playa Negra so alot of the bigger set waves are closing out like it always does when the swell is too south. But you already knew that. Skies are pretty sunny in the mornings. Some mornings the wind is light offshore and some mornings it is onshore. It's that mixed up time of year when it is different everyday. We have rain almost every afternoon and evenings. Water temp is hovering at 84 degrees. Coming up we have more large waves on tap through this weekend and for the beginning of the week and then a slow fade until the end of this week when it picks back up to well overhead and stays that way through next weekend. We have high tide in the early mornings this week coming up so hit the dawn patrol at Playa Negra and you could score some waves you'll remember for the rest of you life.
Good morning folks... it is good to be back in Guiones this morning... San Jose is a necessary evil when you live here, and I just like getting back home. Today on the beach we are looking at head high to a bit overhead surf, with lots of punch. It is looking pretty fun at report time. I wasn't planning on surfing this morning, but will be making an appearance in a few minutes. The beach guard at the main peak has been wearing a Surfing Nosara t in the last week and folks are asking where they can buy them, so I am going to give him some today... They will be 18 bucks, we need 15, and we are hooking him up with 3 for helping out... so if you want some t's just go to the beach... E
AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: Well, finally we have some size, but I'm sorry to say it isn't what was predicted and there is alot of storm slop on top of the swell. I did get a couple of good drops today at the point, but the rides were very uneven and soft.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas): We should have a good swell for the next few days and are hoping for some relief from the wind.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear este fin de semana en su area: The beach is totally closed out and ugly, the point is choppy, Playa Hermosa is sloppy, hmmm...

News and upcoming events (Noticias y eventos): Abraham Lorenzo Bird aka LO or Lorenzo, one of my best friends and life companions passed away this past Sunday of apparent "natural causes" he was 34 years young , fantastic human being ,surfer and waterman who helped so many people join us in our surfing lifestyle . We will miss him immensely and will hold a memorial service for him at the end of the street in front of Copacabana at approximately 4 p.m. Sunday (7/20) to coincide with the high tide . Caribbean Coast - The latest ENE swell fades down to waist high by Monday evening, leaving the rest of the week almost flat. A small wind swell brings some waist high surf Wednesday, but then it's back to knee high through the weekend.
Pacific Coast - Early in the week has surf chest to head up north and a foot bigger down south. Doesn't change through Wednesday, but on Thursday there will be the first foot overhead sets from a big SSW swell headed up for the weekend. Builds to 1-2 feet overhead by Friday afternoon and on Saturday there will be great waves, 2-4 feet overhead. It only drops a foot on Sunday and next Monday will still have plenty of overhead sets. Mid morning low tides mean to go hit those point breaks.
The Long Shot - Plenty of SSW juice flows all the next with another 2-3 foot overhead spike coming on July 25th.

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: The just overhead surf has been excellent this week with the tides in the morning and light wind.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas): Conditions seem to be holding, if not a little smaller. The wave window should last about 6 hours and there should be fairly long spaces with hardly anyone on some of the peaks. Don't fool around with the lightning.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear este fin de semana en su area: There are good peaks everywhere.
Hello everyone, its joe with the Sunday afternoon surf report. The report is that I have nothing to report. Well, nothing super exciting to report. Surfing small waves is better than surfing no waves, so here we go: It got small yesterday and stayed small today. It is total longboard surf, waves in the knee to "occasional" waist high bomber. No photos to show, tomorrow I'll post some of the conditions instead of doing what some people do and post pics of last month's small waves. The wind was offshore all morning and never really blew out, probably because there was a short rain shower at 7am and there have been some clouds throughout the day. The swell forecast is VERY exciting, check it out here. UMMMM...... OK, let me explain what we're looking at here. The part on Friday and Saturday where the blue parts get really big? That means big surf. Ollie's Point is going to be OUT OF CONTROL. That is a good thing if you like sizable epic surf. The predicted swell direction is 215 degrees, so start thinking about those secret spots that need a solid south swell and then start thinking about getting epic waves. I'll update you all more tomorrow, but this should be reason enough to start looking for a flight to Costa Rica. See you in the surf- joe walsh
** From photographer John Lyman, Lyman Photos in Playa Negra - (7/12)
AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: We have had small surf for the last few days as storm activity has slow down in the underworld. Flat to waist high and not much shape. Onshore wind in the afternoon and rain most early evenings. Water temp is 83 degrees.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas): More small surf for now and onshore wind but there are changes on the horizon. By the middle of this upcoming week the swell will pick up from the SW with head high to a couple feet overhead and will continue to stay in the overhead range all the way through next weekend and into the following week. High pressure will move in to make for less rain and a chance of some nice offshore wind.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear este fin de semana en su area: Break out the longboard for some fun ankle slappers and Negra and Avellanas.
NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS- Noticias y dias especiales: John Lyman has some fun fotos to check out at www.lymanphotos.sbpix.com
Good morning folks... Kind of bummed today as I finally have a full day to surf and it is looking about as bad as it gets... oh well, yoga... There is a nice storm off the coast and little waist high dribblers are slowing breaking out front... funny thing is, it is still ridable for sure, and it looks like some folks are getting it done. When is our next big swell coming????
AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: Chest to head high - excellent conditions at mid tide. Storms and rain usually hit around late afternoon or evening.

Caribbean Coast - As all eye are tracking Bertha, other tropical systems are forming around the Yucatan peninsula. Expect these storm to chop up the surf, but give it a little size all week. Most waves are in the waist to chest range, but a few bigger sets pop up every hour. Another East swell shows up next Sunday with more consistent head high surf.
Pacific Coast - Fun head high to overhead surf is the forecast, and there will be some dreamy sessions early morning with the tide filling in. Get up early to catch the swell from the SW Monday and Tuesday, and then see a shift to more of a South swell Wednesday and Thursday. AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: The swell has been consistent for weeks and is head high now with glassy sessions in the morning and afternoon. The traditional "Indian Summer" off-shores have not consistently shown up this year but the clean swells and still conditions have generated some great surf.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas): The tides are ideal for morning and afternoon sessions. The afternoon sessions are packed so bring your party attitude. Don't take any chances with the lightning.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear este fin de semana en su area: There are at least a dozen peaks working all the way to the big rock at the north end of the bay where the backwash has less effect at high tide.
Hi, this is Joe with the Saturday afternoon surf report: If you're in town you're stoked because the waves are really fun. There was a new moon or a full moon, yesterday I think, as the high tide is really high. The waves in front of the camp are great for longboarding, there are really fun rights and lefts in the waist to chest high range. The wind today was kindof choppy but it has glassed off nicely, not too crowded at all.
** From photographer John Lyman, Lyman Photos in Playa Negra - (7/5)
AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: Waist to chest high with fair shape. Lots of onshore wind. Periodic rain. Water temp is 82 degrees.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas): More of the same. Lots of unsettled weather just offshore and could bring a bunch of bad weather to our parts. The surf picks back up toward the middle of the upcoming week.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear este fin de semana en su area: Fun for longboards at Playa Negra and Playa Avellanas.

I have been locked in my office working on the new site for last week, and I think we are going to able to go live at some point this week!!! I am pretty pumped about it... be aware that the old forum is going away and that you will need to grab a new username and password with the new site... they are all up for grabs so get yours early... With the new site you will be able to comment on the surf report and give feedback on the restaurants and hotels... I am hoping that you will take some time to help out and give good feedback, which will allow it to be a collective opinion instead of just mine... As for surf today, it is looking really fun in the head high range with some sweet little sections to do all sorts of tricks on. It isn't super clean, but the form is good and the lines are good, so who cares... just fun surf... And I see a hurricane may be headed towards FL, I know all our boys are stoked back there... I hope you score sweet surf and then it turns and goes out to sea... I don't want to see Jim Cantore in St. Aug... Have a good one... E.
AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: Sets head high or better - good conditions when you work around the rain. Some sun every day - some rain every day or night.
AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: Okay its only 2-4 ft but still quite fun with the afternoon rains arriving right on time . Christain Surfers are throwing a contest out front and enjoying the nice surf conditions ! Hope you all enjoyed your 4th ! PURA VIDA ! Chuck and the CREW at W.O.W. SURF
AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: Chest to head high with good long runs for Dominical. The red tide is still smelling things up a bit, but it is mostly gone now. Medium mid-day wind but good in the morning and evening.

Overview
- Caribbean Coast - The tropical swells continue all week with surf
starting out 1 foot overhead and only dropping to head high by
Wednesday. Thursday calls for inconsistent head high waves and Friday
will only be chest high. More disturbances will keep the right coast
full of chest high surf through the weekend.
Pacific
Coast - The SSW swell peaks Sunday afternoon and drops a little bit by
Monday, down to overhead surf by Tuesday. Wednesday and Thursday are
the smallest for the week at head high with a background SSW swell. On
Friday a more localized WSW swell strikes the Northern Nicoya coast,
pushing surf back overhead, but this only lasts through the weekend.
Farther south will stay overhead, but nothing bigger is expected until
a week from Wed. (7/9) when a powerful south swell arrives that has
built up near the coast of Chile.

- Caribbean Coast - Thursday calls for increasing swell from the East
with overhead sets. The swells maxes Friday afternoon with surf 1-2
foot overhead, and stays big for the weekend. The swell fades down to
head high on Monday but there are still lots of waves to be found for
all next week.
Pacific Coast - Solid SSW swell
pushing in 2-3 feet overhead surf by Friday morning and lasting all
weekend. A second SSW push fills in next Tuesday with more 2 feet
overhead waves, but lasts only a day and fades down to overhead by
Thursday. Another SW swell forming would keep the surf coming next

Good morning again from Guiones. We've got great conditions today,
which I expect to continually improve as the tide drops. We're just
about as high as we get at report time. There aren't too many people
out yet, however Mario, our resident longboard ripper, is putting on a
clinic. If you want to learn to longboard, study these photos and
pretend you're him. You can grow your hair out and then affix a fake
mustache when you go surfing. I think that may be his secret.
Surf is running in the chest high plus range with the occassional
thumper coming through. The wind is dead calm. Grab your board and
get out there. Andrew, out.

- Caribbean Coast - The week starts small with knee to waist clean
surf. Then on Wednesday the first sets of an East swell arrive,
Pacific
Coast - Fun overhead surf all week, but nothing big coming. The SSW
swell coming Wednesday has lost some steam, but still will push a foot
overhead waves with a 15 second period. Low tide is in the morning, so
check out the point breaks early to catch it offshore. Then there's a
slow fade in size lasting through the weekend and into next week, with
surf only head high to overhead and the next SSW swell not arriving
until the following Friday (6/27).

6/13 - Even though the Ministry of Public Works and Transportation
re-opened traffic on the southern Pan American Highway, the number of
vehicles was much smaller than on any regular day, authorities report.
The road is open only 5 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the highway police
regulates tightly regarding speed, since many spots are muddy and
skidding off the road is a permanent danger. In the meantime, repairs
continue at the fastest rhythm possible, but the works won't be
completed in less than six weeks, according to the engineers in charge.
Traffic is also backing up at the bridges north and south of Parrita,
along the coastal highway, so give yourself extra time for driving.

continues. It's not too bad early but it gets to blowing pretty hard by

and raining in the afternoons. The waves will stay in the head high to
a couple feet overhead range for the next week or so. The wind will
tend to blow less in the upcoming week so the shape should get pretty
good. The tide is low mid day and high tide will be coming up early

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: Mostly sloppy waves, no crowds, take your chances.
WHAT
TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de
semana (clima y olas): There are windows of glassy surf in the mornings
and afternoons between rain storms. Don't fool around with the
lightning.
Today I went to Avellanas Beach, the conditions was good for couple
hours, the guys from WRSC had fun day for surfing, good trick, a little
offshore, sizes 2ft to 5ft, great day for practis surf in Avellanas see
ya tomorrow.. Pura Vida

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones:
After this weeks big storm, the surf is somewhat mixed up. Onshore and
sloppy. It's going to take a few days for the sand to wash back off the
reef and the choppy ocean to calm down. Lots of cloudy weather with
rain most everyday now. Water temp is 80 degrees.
WHAT
TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de
semana (clima y olas): The beginning of this week will see a gradual
increase in surf and swell peaking on Thursday with well overhead
waves. Conditions depend on the wind which has not been kind the past
week or so. It's that time of year.
BEST PLACE TO
SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear este fin de

we are starting the day with waist to chest high little lines, not so
clean, but by the end of the day it should be in the head high range.
There is a South that should start hitting mid day today, and if the
conditions repeat from last night, which was super fun, it should be
really good. Here's hopin...
Waves are 3-5 ft in Jaco with fair form lower tide seems to be better
lately . I think with the rivers opening we have some sandbars forming
out front and its definitely looking better than it has in a while,.
Weather super nice today and looks like more for tomorrow but rain
later on , business good too with the early vacationers starting to
arrive this week so have fun go surfing ! Chuck and the CREW at W.O.W.
SURF !
AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS: The big news in Dominical is not the
wave hight or condition, but rather the new beach. We had a huge storm
which tore the river mouth wide open (about 50 meters across). All the
sand from the mouth deposited itself a little to the south which gives
a good pointish condition even at low tide. All along the beach the
sand bars are uneven and little pointitos can be found here and there.
I'm not sure how long all of this well last, but its fun at the moment.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves)
- Que va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas): Just little waves
(shoulder high but very fun) until next Friday where it looks like we
could be getting a bump.

- Caribbean Coast - Perfect snorkeling conditions to start the week,
but a tropical disturbance is expected to cross the country and
strengthen in the Caribbean, pushing in some choppy overhead surf for
Thursday and Friday.
Pacific Coast - It's a
double whammy this week. Leftover SSW swell keeps the surf overhead to
start the week, then a West wind swell picks up from tropical storm
formation. This combines with another SSW swell Thursday, pushing the
surf up to double overhead for two days. It cleans up Saturday and
Sunday with dropping size and better form. More SW waves are expected
the following week as well.

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y

with the high tides - but somewhat mixed up by the proximity of the
rainy season just south of us. There are lots of people out in the
afternoon for the on shore messy surf.
WHAT TO EXPECT
THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de semana
(clima y olas): The early morning tides are right, and the possibility
of an afternoon session if it glasses off, but anything can affect the
quality right now as the first part of the rainy season moves in.

light onshores. Water temp is 82 degrees.
WHAT
TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de

Surf today is looking OK at report time as we had some really heavy
rains last night. They acutally woke me up a few times. It started
clearing up around 7 this morning, which is why the report is running a
bit behind schedule. The photos were taken at a dead high tide and the
weather was just starting to break, so there is hope for a late mornin
session. Town is pretty much dead right now, which is a good thing as
Kemper has been super fun to play with this month, so I am happy to

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and

big event coming on Wednesday, but its a bit hard to believe. I think
it is going to be a near shore event and big but crazy - waves going

be out of control. We'll see.

The nice swells we've been having for so long are gone. Replaced by
waist to chest high waves coming through every once in a while. These
have been nice mornings for a mask and snorkel. Beautiful sunny skies
in the mornings with those big puffy white clouds floating around up
there. Light offshore wind in the mornings and blowing out onshore in
the afternoons. Water temp is 84 degrees. Some rain in the late
afternoons / evenings. Coming up, more of the same. Not much going on
storm wise in the underworld last week so we are pretty much waveless
for the next few days. A storm that went through the South Pacific a
few days ago will bring some steep south swells into Central America
but may be a bit too south for Playa Negra. It won't happen until next
weekend anyways. So get out the longboards and lots of sunscreen. It's
a long wait in between those waist high wonders. Get out there early
and you'll solo. Check out some great pics daily at www.lymanphotos.sbpix.com
Good morning folks... I hope you guys are having a great weekend. Last
night our crew headed to Chandi's new restaurant in Garza. Chandi used
to run Il Basilico, which was shut down, but he has now moved his pizza
oven down about 150meters south to another little bar. Garza is a
great place to hang out on the beach and watch the sunset over Punta
Guiones.
For surf today we are looking at a building
swell that will peak this afternoon in the head high range. It is
looking real fun on the beach... I was worried as it rained pretty good
last night, but it cleaned up real quick. The winds are light offshore
and we have a pushing low tide... those are some of my favorite
conidtions... should be a little skate park out there today... keep an
eye out for Lluigi and the boys doing some silly tricks.

The swell should back down on Sunday and the rest of next week.
Hopefully giving us some cleaner waves. The best bet is forst ting in
the moring and the late afternoon session. The wind has been really
laying down in the late afternoon giving us some fun sunset sessions.
Well, yesterday we had our first real rain... it felt so good sleeping
last night... we are about at the end of our A/C season, and back to
fans and open windows... But, since it rained like crazy last night,
you may want to hold off of the morning session. It isn't looking real
good today, and last year I got a funky cold right after the first
rains. I look at it like this... we have been dry now for almost 6
months... that is a lot of fertilizer, pesticide, monkey poop, that is
all washing into our bay this morning. Don't get me wrong, Guiones is
about as clean as it gets... and I am sure you will be fine, just rinse
out the ears today...
Surf is looking like the rainy
season, which I love cause we have all sorts of crazy sections... like
a little skate park in the head high to a bit overhead range today.
When they jack up right, there are some barrel sections, but you gotta
be on your game to get'm... Have a great day, and we will see you back
in the morning...

- Caribbean Coast - The week starts off quiet, but a ESE swell sets up
near Venezuela and pushes in some chest high surf going into the
weekend.
Pacific Coast - The current SW swell is
giving the entire coast some overhead surf through Tuesday morning.
This fades through the day, dropping down to head high by Wednesday up
north, a lil bigger down south. More of the same Thursday and Friday
morning, but by dusk surfers see a few 1-2 foot overhead sets. More of
them Saturday, and the full SSW arrives Sunday pushing waves up to
double overhead.

early next week.

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones:
Shoulder to slightly overhead started today (Sunday). On shore breeze
isn't too bad and mid-day surf at the mid to high tide works ok.
Possibly there will be enough tide this afternoon to get an early
evening session in.
WHAT TO EXPECT (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar (clima y olas): It
looks like next weekend may have some bigger waves, but the storm is
way down south of Peru , so we won't know for sure until Tuesday or
Wednesday.

Caribbean Coast - Non-existent waves for most of the week. Wednesday
may see a few ENE waist high sets, but nothing past Thursday morning.
Pacific
Coast - The chest to head high surf continues for the first part of the
week. A SW swell with a 18 second period arrives Thursday in the
Guanacaste region, and fills in the rest of the coast by Friday
morning, pushing surf well overhead on the sets. This swell lasts
through the weekend and fades next Monday, leaving only a short wait
before another SSW swell arrives the following Thursday.

AREA
WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: The
surf at Playa Negra has been in that fun zone chest to head high with
good shape. Sunny and very hot these last few days with air temps
hoving at 100 degrees and the water temp is 84 degrees. Light offshores
continue in the mornings and onshore for the afternoons. That onshore
wind dies about an hour before sunset and the waves have been fun for
the evening glass off. The swell will pick up a bit in the next few
days peaking on Monday with headhigh plus from the SW. It will back
slide a bit for the middle of the week and then pick up significantly
for the end of the week and the beginning of the month. The tides are
perfect this upcoming week for the early morning session before the
hoard gets out there.
We've got small surf here again today. This is about as small as we
seem to ever see, but if you wait for the sets, there are some punchy
little zippers. Pio got a couple of good ones while I was shooting and
you can see from his pictures that you could get some speed if you did
things right. The wind is light at report time and the tide is fairly
full. We'll see what the wind does today. It shifted yesterday around
8am, but stayed light enough to not mess anything up until about 9:30.
Another day another wave. Grab your board and go have fun.

Some double overhead sets are mixing with the well overhead consistent
surf. Surprisingly the wind is holding in the afternoon for the high
tides which are high enough to throw backwash into the high tide surge

the wind backs off.
WHAT TO EXPECT (weather and

Fun sized surf today with good shape. Marq was out there trying out a
new board today. Why you might ask???? Well, Magic has some 5 star
days on the forecast. That's right. Wed, Thurs and Fri are 6.5,
6, and 6 foot, respectively with a 16 second period from a favorable
direction. Let's hope they are right because lets face it, head high
waves are getting a bit hackneyed at this point. Don't get me wrong,
these waves are tons of fun, we all love to surf them but its nice to
get the adrenaline pumping every now and again. Besides, the wipeout
photos are WAY better when its pumping, and who doesn't like a good
wipeout shot. Check out the shot of Marq and Big Daddy sharing a
wave. The poor guy on the longboard paddling back out became a speed
bump for a brief moment.

Both
coasts sport surf a couple of feet overhead on Monday, but the pattern
of dropping surf through the week is shared. On the east side, short
period peaky overhead surf lasts until Friday, then disappears with the
start of the weekend. On the west coast, Tuesday the SW swell peaks,
but there will be only a few big sets during the day. A lot of the
punch is being blocked by the Galapagos, and by Thursday the swell
weakens down to overhead. It gets smaller for the weekend, but prepare
for another SW to arrive by next Tuesday with surf a foot overhead.
AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones:
Although the wind conditions and tides have been ideal, this hefty
swell (double overhead set waves) has been raw and tricky. Even
ducking down into the bay toward the Tamarindo Estuary didn't iron out
all the double ups and close outs.
WHAT
TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones:

have been constant 4+ feet, nice perfect glassy morning conditions. On
the other hand the sunset surf session have been a little windy but a
little more easy not as heavy as the morning sessions. Yesterday
morning at the Almendro waves where at least double + overhead-
makeable perfect heavy barrels where you can literally watch the pit
spit…. A lot of broken boards and leashes….

The
excitement today isn't on the beach, it is about 600 miles out in the
middle of the ocean, steam-rolling its way in... Looking at the
forecast we have a full week of four and five star days!!! Should be
overhead until next week starting tomorrow at some point... And for
our Thursday, Friday sessions it is looking all-time, with 6 feet at 16
seconds from our sweet 216 direction... it is a rest and get ready,
movie day today... I'll be hitting up the frog pad on the way home

The
Caribbean continues its hot streak of overhead surf from the East,
shrinking a foot Tuesday and Wednesday, but growing slowly back to 1-2'
overhead through to the weekend. On the Pacific,
first a WNW arrives giving the Guanacaste coast some overhead relief.
Then on Thursday, a SW swell stirs up around Isla de Coco and pushes
surf 1-2 foot overhead to the southern coasts. This swell is a little
weaker up on the Nicoya, but still packs a punch and lasts all weekend. More SW arriving midweek next week.
AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones:
The surf in Playa Grande this week is in the head high range for the
farely inconsistent sets. The wind is off shore and some of the better

Playa Negra has seen very small surf the last few days. Knee high on
the sets. Hard offshore wind all day has dropped the ocean temp to the
mid 70s. Coming up we have sunny and warm with those offshores
continuing as our swell starts to pick up with a nice SW showing today
and staying with us for the next few days. Look for head high plus sets
through Monday. We have high tide running through the mornings now so
get to Playa Negra early for some fun stuff with less people.

Surf is looking fun this morning in Playa Guiones, with good sets
pushing through in the chest to maybe head high range... it is still a
long wait to get one, but things are looking up. It won't be flat this
week, but it won't be epic... but there are some little swells from the
south headed our way.

The
Caribbean is the coast with the most this week and this weekend, with a
solid 1-2 foot overhead arriving Wednesday, with many set waves for the
reef breaks through the weekend. On the Pacific side it's the opposite,
with only trace South swell pushing in weak waist high surf with a few
chest high sets for the lucky beaches. The best bet is check the tides
and surf at midtide going to high at the beachbreaks. The long range
forecast isn't promising with a one foot increase for early next week
from the WSW, but nothing following it for another 3 to 4 days.
** From photographer John Lyman, Lyman Photos in Playa Negra - (2/4)
We've had a good run of SW swell with head high to a couple feet over
on the sets. Sunny and windy. Great shape with 80 degree water. The
next few days will see a decrease in swell as the storms down under
have slacked a bit. Head high and small as the week goes on. Waist high
by the weekend. Low tide in the mornings means checking out Avellanas
rivermouth with a longboard.

It has been good for a while now, but today is the day! Low tide, and
the swell has dropped a bit so it is kind of missing that outside bar
and firin on the inside... Gonna be a short report as I want to get
some barrel shots today as Matt is in the water... SOUL ARCH MATT
HERE: Well it was head high this monring but the tide was really low
with not much offshore winds to hold em' up. There were however some
really good nuggets from time to time. As you can see from the photos,
we shot from the water and the beach today. The biggest heartbreak has
to go to Pedro who was perfectly positioned on a macking left but
couldn't go because of the board bailed right in his path. He made up
for it on the next wave of the set though and all was right with the
world again.

The
Caribbean starts out big, then gets fickle by Monday afternoon and
fades out completely by Tuesday. Wednesday is the waist high wait day,
then Thurday a ESE swell appears with head high sets. Friday is back to
well overhead, but it doesn't last past dusk, for the weekend doesn't
bring more waves. For the Pacific side, a nice SW swell brings overhead
surf for Monday, but by Tuesday gets inconsistent, and by Wednesday
your wanting more. But no other major swell will arrive this weekend or
