Breakdown -

Caribbean Coast - The latest ENE swell fades down to waist high by Monday evening, leaving the rest of the week almost flat. A small wind swell brings some waist high surf Wednesday, but then it's back to knee high through the weekend.

Pacific Coast - Early in the week has surf chest to head up north and a foot bigger down south. Doesn't change through Wednesday, but on Thursday there will be the first foot overhead sets from a big SSW swell headed up for the weekend. Builds to 1-2 feet overhead by Friday afternoon and on Saturday there will be great waves, 2-4 feet overhead. It only drops a foot on Sunday and next Monday will still have plenty of overhead sets. Mid morning low tides mean to go hit those point breaks.

The Long Shot - Plenty of SSW juice flows all the next with another 2-3 foot overhead spike coming on July 25th.

** From Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande (7/12) -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: The just overhead surf has been excellent this week with the tides in the morning and light wind.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas): Conditions seem to be holding, if not a little smaller. The wave window should last about 6 hours and there should be fairly long spaces with hardly anyone on some of the peaks. Don't fool around with the lightning.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear este fin de semana en su area: There are good peaks everywhere.

** From Joe at Witchs Rock Surf Camp in Tamarindo - (7/13)

Hello everyone, its joe with the Sunday afternoon surf report.  The report is that I have nothing to report.  Well, nothing super exciting to report.  Surfing small waves is better than surfing no waves, so here we go:  It got small yesterday and stayed small today.  It is total longboard surf, waves in the knee to "occasional" waist high bomber.  No photos to show, tomorrow I'll post some of the conditions instead of doing what some people do and post pics of last month's small waves.  The wind was offshore all morning and never really blew out, probably because there was a short rain shower at 7am and there have been some clouds throughout the day.  The swell forecast is VERY exciting, check it out here. UMMMM......   OK, let me explain what we're looking at here.  The part on Friday and Saturday where the blue parts get really big?  That means big surf.  Ollie's Point is going to be OUT OF CONTROL.  That is a good thing if you like sizable epic surf.  The predicted swell direction is 215 degrees, so start thinking about those secret spots that need a solid south swell and then start thinking about getting epic waves.  I'll update you all more tomorrow, but this should be reason enough to start looking for a flight to Costa Rica.  See you in the surf-  joe walsh

** From photographer John Lyman, Lyman Photos in Playa Negra - (7/12)

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: We have had small surf for the last few days as storm activity has slow down in the underworld. Flat to waist high and not much shape. Onshore wind in the afternoon and rain most early evenings. Water temp is 83 degrees.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas): More small surf for now and onshore wind but there are changes on the horizon. By the middle of this upcoming week the swell will pick up from the SW with head high to a couple feet overhead and will continue to stay in the overhead range all the way through next weekend and into the following week. High pressure will move in to make for less rain and a chance of some nice offshore wind.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear este fin de semana en su area: Break out the longboard for some fun ankle slappers and Negra and Avellanas.

** From Andrew at SurfingNosara.com in Playa Guiones (7/13) -

Good morning folks...  Kind of bummed today as I finally have a full day to surf and it is looking about as bad as it gets...  oh well, yoga...  There is a nice storm off the coast and little waist high dribblers are slowing breaking out front...  funny thing is, it is still ridable for sure, and it looks like some folks are getting it done.  When is our next big swell coming????
