Breakdown -

Caribbean Coast - As all eye are tracking Bertha, other tropical systems are forming around the Yucatan peninsula. Expect these storm to chop up the surf, but give it a little size all week. Most waves are in the waist to chest range, but a few bigger sets pop up every hour. Another East swell shows up next Sunday with more consistent head high surf.

Pacific Coast - Fun head high to overhead surf is the forecast, and there will be some dreamy sessions early morning with the tide filling in. Get up early to catch the swell from the SW Monday and Tuesday, and then see a shift to more of a South swell Wednesday and Thursday. The waves drop down a foot Friday and the weekend call is for leftovers.

The Long Shot - Next swell after this is a week from Thursday (7/17)

** From Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande (7/5) -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: The swell has been consistent for weeks and is head high now with glassy sessions in the morning and afternoon. The traditional "Indian Summer" off-shores have not consistently shown up this year but the clean swells and still conditions have generated some great surf.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas): The tides are ideal for morning and afternoon sessions. The afternoon sessions are packed so bring your party attitude. Don't take any chances with the lightning.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear este fin de semana en su area: There are at least a dozen peaks working all the way to the big rock at the north end of the bay where the backwash has less effect at high tide.

** From Joe at Witchs Rock Surf Camp in Tamarindo - (7/5)

Hi, this is Joe with the Saturday afternoon surf report: If you're in town you're stoked because the waves are really fun.  There was a new moon or a full moon, yesterday I think, as the high tide is really high.  The waves in front of the camp are great for longboarding, there are really fun rights and lefts in the waist to chest high range.  The wind today was kindof choppy but it has glassed off nicely, not too crowded at all.

** From photographer John Lyman, Lyman Photos in Playa Negra - (7/5)

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: Waist to chest high with fair shape. Lots of onshore wind. Periodic rain. Water temp is 82 degrees.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas): More of the same. Lots of unsettled weather just offshore and could bring a bunch of bad weather to our parts. The surf picks back up toward the middle of the upcoming week.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear este fin de semana en su area: Fun for longboards at Playa Negra and Playa Avellanas.

** From Andrew at SurfingNosara.com in Playa Guiones (7/6) -

I have been locked in my office working on the new site for last week, and I think we are going to able to go live at some point this week!!!  I am pretty pumped about it... be aware that the old forum is going away and that you will need to grab a new username and password with the new site... they are all up for grabs so get yours early...  With the new site you will be able to comment on the surf report and give feedback on the restaurants and hotels... I am hoping that you will take some time to help out and give good feedback, which will allow it to be a collective opinion instead of just mine... As for surf today, it is looking really fun in the head high range with some sweet little sections to do all sorts of tricks on.  It isn't super clean, but the form is good and the lines are good, so who cares...  just fun surf...  And I see a hurricane may be headed towards FL, I know all our boys are stoked back there...  I hope you score sweet surf and then it turns and goes out to sea...  I don't want to see Jim Cantore in St. Aug...  Have a good one... E.

** From Brice at Land Assurance in Dominical (6/28) -

AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones: Chest to head high with good long runs for Dominical. The red tide is still smelling things up a bit, but it is mostly gone now. Medium mid-day wind but good in the morning and evening.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este fin de semana (clima y olas): A little swell is coming that should push the waves to head high with overhead sets over the weekend. Monday and Tuesday look a little less defined.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a surfear este fin de semana en su area: Anywhere along the beach at Dominical or Hermosa.
