Costa Rica's Weekly Surf Report
Volume 6, Issue 188
April 4, 2003

NATIONAL FORECAST

Pacific - Surf for this weekend in Guanacaste will be chest to head
high from a WNW system right off the coast. This lasts until Sunday
afternoon and then it's a short waist high wait until Wednesday
afternoon for the SW to arrive with some 1-2 foot overhead sets at
the south facing beaches. Farther south surf stays in the head high
range until Tuesday when it drops a foot, then Wednesday sees the
same SW bring in head high surf. Grows to overhead by Thursday (with
massive tide swings) and 1-2 overhead for Friday.

Caribbean - The big wave season is nearing the end with surf knee to
waist high at the beachbreaks. Gets smaller until Wednesday
afternoon, when a slight ESE brings some more waist to occasional
chest high relief.

AREA REPORTS

NICOYA (N)

** From Carrie and Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande -

The waves have been holding head high to over head all week and are
expected to budge for the weekend. This swell has been relatively
messy, even on the dropping side, however there are great and perfect
waves for the patient. The crowd has been
especially light and under amped. Off shores are prevailing in the
morning with the high tide.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este
fin de semana (clima y olas): Morning surf and minimal high tides
raise the probability for great surf this week end. Easter vacation
has begun and the beach will begin to fill up with nationals eager to
enjoy their short chance to surf.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA- El mejor lugar a
surfear este fin de semana en su area: The sand is not as good as it
could be in Playa Grande, but look for good surf all along the
northern end of the beach. Chicken head rock has reportedly been
excellent.

** From Diana, the best surf maestra in Tamarindo -

The swell with which we began the week faded away leaving us with
small surf in Tamarindo and Langosta. The on-shores have been
beginning in the late morning and have warmed up the water
considerably from last week.

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este
fin de semana (clima y olas):
expect some nice morning sesson this weekend. Get out the longboards
for the mellow surf and get there right after breakfast while the
wind is still in our favor.

BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA- El mejor lugar a
will better pick up the southern pulse that we're getting. The
Langosta rivermouth should also be rideable, but very early in the
morning.

** From Joe at Witches Rock Surf Camp in Tamarindo

NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS-
Tamarindo lifeguards no longer have any financial support and are
forced to quit! Wouldn't it be nice if many of the local Tamarindo
businesses would kick in to help support our lifeguards (as they save
tourists' lives, which equals more tourists alive and supporting your
businesses) In an attempt to stop this, WRSC is offering to pay IN
FULL FOR ALL LIFEGUARDS TO WORK TAMARINDO BEACH. If any other
businesseswant to join, please do. If not, well, I guess you can do
this too.

JACO & HERMOSA
