Friday, maxing with 2 foot overhead sets every 20 minutes. Saturday
is a slight dropoff, but continued NW swell keeps it headhigh plus
into the following week.
Caribbean - Small surf Sunday and Monday, barely rideable. But on
Tuesday you'll see knee to waist high surf that preceeds a bigger NE
swell arriving Thursday. By Thur. afternoon chest high sets are
pushing in and Friday will be head high at the best spots which

AREA REPORTS
NICOYA (N)
** From Diana at Pura Mar Surf Shop in Tamarindo -
From the Puramar.com surflog - 12/9 - Here' s something that I feel
is worth sharing; it's an e-mail I got today, along with my response.
I can't tell you how many people write me in this tone of voice or
come into my shop almost looking for an apology if the conditions
aren't the ones in Endless Summer II. I find it amusing. I can do a
lot of things but I can't make waves or predict the future. I also
feel a great amount of genuine sympathy for you folks who plan a surf
trip and then find no surf! I would hate that. I sympathize. I would
be disgusted too. So here is the e-mail:
***email***
Hello, I'm visiting CR for the first time. I've been seeing a bit of
a flat spell(1-2ft) for the north pacific. Doe's it usually last
long? I'm planning on surfing Dec 21-26th, and a flat spell would be
really upsetting. Especially if I found out that the surf from my
home break (Miami,FL) was larger. (no name)
***Response***
Hi, Flat spells are upsetting, I agree. I can't remember one that
lasted this long at this time of year, so all I can say is that the
longer it lasts, the closer we MUST be getting to the end of it. If
you surf, you must know that Mother Nature has a mind of her own,
that's why we love her so much and why she sometimes drives us crazy
just like all the other people we love. Believe me - I hope we have
waves during your visit just as much as you do. If not, I can point
you south to where you can find some. Pura vida, Diana
** From Louis at Hotel Las Tortugas in Playa Grande -
AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - Tamano de las olas y condiciones:
We are enjoying a very fun mini swell with a westerly direction.
Perfect waist to shoulder peelers and light crowds. The wind has been
changing early so the lower tides are the call.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - Que va a pasar este
fin de semana (clima y olas): The tides are moving into the afternoon
and high tide is a little fuller each day lowering the probability
for great surf without a strong swell.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - El mejor lugar a
surfear este fin de semana en su area: There are little waves
everywhere in the bay including Tamarindo.
Joe at Witchs Rock Surf Camp in Tamarindo -
AREA WAVE HEIGHTS AND CONDITIONS - The surf has continued to stay in
the waist high range, with heavy offshore winds almost 100% of the
time. With a bit more swell we'd have epic conditions in Tamarindo
Bay. Surf at more exposed beachbreaks has reached shoulder to head-
igh with slight overhead "creeper sets" coming through. Yesterday
(Friday December 10) Witch's Rock was the best I've seen of anywhere
this last week, with the Sailboats sandbar seeing great conditions
despite the lack of swell.
WHAT TO EXPECT THIS WEEKEND (weather and waves) - The swell models
are predicting a slight increase in swell with a late season south,
hopefully reaching us by Tuesday. For the weekend, however, we don't
expect much change...as usual, .if you live here then you probably
know where to go to find waves.
BEST PLACE TO SURF THIS WEEKEND IN YOUR AREA - After surfing Witch's
yesterday, and having been surfing this entire last week, Witch's
Rock always comes on top. If you can make the trip, get out there and
you won't be bummed. If you're driving in, make sure you know what
you're doing. Late season rain showers on December 6,7 and 8 made the
road near impassible. We will tow you out AFTER we're done surfing,
not before! You'd probably be better out hiking into the park, or
stop by the camp and purchase a boat ticket for the day. If you can't
get out to Witch's, Playa Grande or even Nosara will show you some
fun waves.
NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS- The San Diego Chargers are going to the
playoffs?....I don't want to get ahead of myself, but they are
playing like stars. Oh yeah, and if you're in Costa Rica stop by the
WRSC Bar & Grill for a cold Imperial, happy hour daily 5-8pm and
weekend BBQ! pura vida- joe
** From Coconut Harry in Playa Guiones (Nosara) -
Hola from Playa Guiones (Nosara)! It's 'muy poquena' here -
occasional chest set wave. We're doing lots of lessons however, as
the surf is perfect for beginners. Pura Vida, Coconut Harry -
